I usually don't elaborate much on my trades here. I just posted my charts, state my entries and targets. No analysis.
I do elaborate on the Euro, given the different dynamics and personalities there. Cable Update to me, is more of a fast-paced, fast-growing thread, so I keep things short, and to the point. No analysis.
Since it generated some interests as to why I go short on the Cable, go long on Euro, and short the dollar against yen, ...... I figured, if people like to know, I can share.
In short, since FOMC in Dec 2022, the market and the Fed are in collision course. Market investors have been pricing in a rate cut for Q2 '23, thus we see that swing on all dollar pairs last two weeks. Markets ignored Fed hawkishness. ISM service sector numbers (for Dec) were a blunt statement to possibly discredit further rate hikes. Markets are looking at larger datasets. Fed's attention was and still fixated on labour market. Payroll numbers are lagging indicators. There's certain process as to when firms decide to start laying off workers, something not well captured and reflected on the establishment survey data. Both markets and Fed are correct, but markets usually, not always, tend to have the upper hand on foreshadowing market events.
Now, as to why I short Cable, while going long on Euro and yen. That's a touchy subject here I believe. To me, it's nothing more than just risk hedging. Done deliberately. With everything being equal, Sterling now has a higher chance of getting messed up. We saw that ever since Brexit. It's just a repeat occurrence. There're always outside forces working against, from all directions, on economic and fiscal front. It's just more vulnerable. Who would have foreseen that Truss-Kwarteng blunder? Some, but not everyone. That is why I too hedge my risk, by going short on EURGBP.
