Hi Kevin ,
New York equities Nasdaq/NYSE Core Session opens at 9:30 am NYT.

Some other markets for ex...oil opens 9:00am.. but the NY Box is always 930-1025(5 min candle closes at 1030)

Some people use 830am... But the main algo(s) for the market are set off of 930am

Hope that helps..

{quote} No stupid questions For the sake of simplicity I will only discuss the 50%... I simply wait for the 1 hour equity box to close. (The age old name for this is an Opening Range...some have put a new spin on it and call it a Defining Range.) So we wait for the BOX to close..We then wait for price to hopefully retest "something" in the O.R. We want some confluences. It can be the Equity Open the Daily Open,,It can be a FVG etc...etc...etc....and it can be the 50% mark...then I look for multiple confleunces at those areas to pull the...

I have not been studying your posts and charts for some time but it is interesting that you also employ the same thing (50%) as I do, though slightly differently:
1. On the Fair Value or Liquidity Gap - I learned this from the Wyckoff Method and it is called the Halfway Point (applied on the range).
2. On the Trading Range - I started to take note of this when I was studying BW's DOL. I also apply the Wyckoff Method to plot the Fib.

It is Ok to have these opening session ranges on your chart,

but you musn't lose sight of the market structure that is forming around these ranges.

Excellent excellent point Shabs ! Very important to ZOOM out ..Frankly I analyze everything from the Weekly on down. Timetells knows lol as I inundate him with all sorts of charts lol...

Andy/Moodybot has a great method of identifying a structure break on the 1 hr then using the 15/5 with box timing to enter.

Anyways AU gives a good example of this.... 1 hr Structure High/Buyside liquidity/Liquidity wick call it what you want.....
We know a stophunt of liquidity is generally 25-50 pips...Keep that in mind..

Zooming in to the 1 min you can see the LHs and LLs forming right into the box at timing etc... then there is abreak of the previous LH.
But you need to look at the preceeding PA support resistance again call it what you want.
Its identified on the 1m yellow band..and the major are identified on the 1hr black line...

I had already had this AU trade sketched out and saw your post Shabs and thought was a good fit.

Cheers

M30/H1 are good TF's to plot market structure (around market opens), if you are trading 15/5m to refine entries.

I personally don't go down to M1, too much noise for me.

Not trading today ( this week) but marked up some lines on Dax, out of interest after reading some posts about "lines" here

15 minutes downwards to 0ne minute.

Tried a Fib 50% line out of interest ( Not sure if drawn correctly)

Hi Bluesteele,

Can I ask why you don't just use 1MIN Structure to Enter Trades?

This is especially Relevant around Whole and Half Numbers after a Significant Market Move

Lastly Cable - Just lines, an hourly box and two time frames. I always think a 5 minute is the better lower time frame than a 1 minute on Cable.
less chaos ?

Update - one more chart

OK -so hour is not up yet to create box but put Fib on high and low since open and 50% line serves as useful guide for my "Roadmap" etc...levels and lines again
Any comment?
Should I wait for hour box to complete before using Fib?
New York Open line as a target?

Update chart:

Hi Steve,,,

It really depends on what I am seeing on the 5m... For entries yes I use the 1m as well as the 5. For structure on the 1m I like to limit the amount of bars I see...or should I say I like to see the actual bars not a zoomed out chart of just what almost becomes looking a line chart ,,if that makes sense ?

I have gravitated back to using TV as I like how I can manipulate the charts for a better view..My main monitor is a large ultrawide and that now helps as well seeing a larger picture on the 1m etc.. Ya know the old eyesight thing as we mature lol

I guess I should also say that I use the 4 hr and Daily to plot measured moves, Patterns such as Triangles/wedges, Fibs and mark out FVGs...I will then look for structure on the 1 and 5 to enter at those areas..

As for just using 1m structure I think that is very viable if one focuses but ive just been working top down for so many years its a routine I really love to do. I can spend 12 hours a day just analyzing the charts...and I do many many days.

Cheers
Kevin

Keep between the Lines T !!!!

Heres a chart of the Dax with an inital failed entry that would be stopped out but then a beauty sets up..(trading on the outside)
and then a couple of the ES SPX...

I know I have eluded to keeping tabs on prev Opening Ranges... The highs lows and opens.. Quite often a subsequent session will respect previous sessions
highs lows and opens. The SPX charts really show what im talking about so thought id bring that up for those interested.

Cheers !

Not trading this week, as I've said before.
But still learning about lines and how they help my approach. I have left out BRN,s and 50's but you can see them near the horizontal price levels I've put in prior to UK Open.
I like the UK open line but not sure Fibs help plus too much analysis ruins my speed of reaction, which is slow enough at my age.
Lines are growing on me ( not literally)
Edit: The RED line is the UK open line.
