So, here's a thought, just in case any of you widely knowledgeable folks might wanna chip in to help clarify:

I assume we all know how the market deals with gaps. I know I read once - and experienced it hundreds of times - that the markets will move to close gaps 99% of the time. Cool.

Now, over the weekend, my broker closed shop 3hrs prior to official market close, and only re-opened 10hrs ago. Whilst my own broker (and I assume most of your brokers too) disabled trades, I know for a fact that the markets kept working. I closely followed Bloomberg quotes to keep up all through the weekend. Cool.

Having observed these, we will agree that as per the actual reflection of the market during the Christmas and Boxing Day weekend, there was no gap in quoted prices, because the markets kept up as usual whilst most of our brokers bowed out.

However, when brokers re-enabled trading, there was, and still is, a significant gap between where trading was disabled (1.2032 for me) and where trading was enabled again (1.2064 for me).

The way I see it, that gap is an artificial one and not a true reflection of market conditions.

My question thus is, am I to expect the same almost certain market behavior that price will move at some point soon to close that gap?

Under normal circumstances, any market open gap that is yet unfilled makes me really really skeptical to trade convincingly in the direction opposite to the gap, and for sure they are almost always filled up in less than 24hrs. So, while I am of the view that we are supposed to be BULLISH today, I can't help but remain skeptical because alarm bells are going off in the back of my mind that this market won't forget that unfilled gap, which lies at a distant 50 pips or so away from current price.

Any thoughts?

big money is starting to go into the gbp complexes and into the euro complexes from the yen and to a lesser amount the usd complexes....will be interesting if this continues.
