I'm not doubting the published figures. I'm simply doubting how well informed people are on the state of the US economy and that the people in charge have been manipulating these figures for so long that they now seem to believe their own lies.

For example, the biggest factor of the CPI is Owners Equivalent Rent. Not actual rents but a made up figure that literally no one pays. It's literally a fiction and yet it's one of the most important news releases of the month.

Sounds to me you won't be able to get a fixed rate Morgage etc and as such the bank can vary the rate (asset reprcing) so the bank is not at risk!

Which is an indication these rates are going up!
