Using the COT Report in Forex Trading

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) COT report presents a remarkable look at the positioning of futures traders across a wide content of markets, and it is quite often employed as a proxy for the FX trading market. In the weekly report, the US regulator cracks down long and short positions and general open interest according to three distinct trading groups. Knowing where traders’ positions are in the forex market can be useful information when creating trade ideas.

It is a requirement of the CFTC that the biggest futures retailers in the world must report their circumstances. These positions can be efficiently tracked due to the margin they must deliver to hold their large positions which the CFTC has been publishing since 1962.

More newly since the year 2000, reports are discharged every Friday at 3:30ET pm. This details can be highly valuable to merchants due to the nature of people who come into the futures market. This includes institutions like hedge funds who enter to make a retrieval above their separateindex. Some of the largest companies in the world with real-time data of the health of an economy come to the futures market to hedge their openness to price instabilities of raw materials that they use to make their product. This allows traders to count the positioning of the market at that specific time.

Study of the three main groups mentioned in the COT report:

Commercial Traders – These are most often large multi-national companies with saleable hedging welfare in their individualfutures markets. For example, a large Japanese manufacturer may want to hedge their direction to fluctuations in the USD/JPY exchange rate.

Non-Commercial Traders – This data most often links to large wagerers such as Commodity Trading Advisors and similarly large institutions assuming in specific futures markets. For example, a major commodity fund believes that the US Dollar will respect against the Euro and, as such, place bets on Euro forex futures.

Non-Reportable Traders – Non-Reportable Traders are traders who don’t fall into any group group. Most frequently seen as undersized speculators, these are arguably less consequential and do not repeatedly figure into COT report analysis. For example, these traders direct to the leveraged players without deep bags who are surprised out on big moves

mr pat when should i enter a trade after i missed begining of a movement. GJ for example every time i look at the chart im thinking is too late for entry and it just keeps going up

No able to be giving nay trade advice to you as I don't know what's your strategy.

Writing hypothetical scenario above is very unlikely for me to give you my view unless you accompany it with chart.

And that is why using multiple MAs on a single TF is better than a single MA: A look at a SINGLE chart with 4 MAs provides more information than trying to view 4 charts at once that contain a single MA. In addition, the cognitive load of processing a single chart is much lower than having to process 4 charts at one time.

And let's not forget the additional advantage of "revealing" information from missing TFs of poor charting platforms like MetaTrader. If a TF doesn't exist, then using a single MA on an existing TF is of little value in revealing any information of any of the missing TFs.

How to anticipate movements stoploss Hunted?
Whenever you see several top row, then the price will sweep those highs.
Record yourself this idea in mind, because it is crucial, fixed in your mind, several top row, and the price will go to hunt them.
