BigE know about TDI repaint. Mentioned refresh 4*times. Why? TDI repaints the some crossovers.
Post 1,812: when I press the refresh button on the chart in between the time frame, the line moves in relation to the PA during those time
Post 1,827: I don't refresh my charts while trading

It is easy to see how TDI repaint.
Don't refresh/ restart MT4 platform, markup a few TDI crossovers, green bounce red, refresh chart and pesto some difference will be noted.

TDI is repainting indicators it is True, especially the yellow line is the father of repainting.

I don't like TDI For many reasons, MACD is much Better than TDI, In fact, simple RSI is better than TDI.
Green cross rad is not repainting once it crosses its cross. that is why the TDI histogram gives a more accurate TDI cross signal.

some indicators adjust themselves with candlesticks price close. we have to accept that. MACD, EMA, RSI, SMTMMS do the same.
MA provides the market's current direction and strength.

@hasib -- that is correct. That is called "recalculation" and it only occurs on Bar[0]. In MT4 Bars / Candles are indexed from 0 to N, where index '0' is the right-most bar that is still alive, and index 'N' is the left-most bar on the chart. Bar[0], the right-most bar, is still alive because its High, Low and Close are subject to change with each incoming tick. Once an interval has ended then Bar[0] becomes Bar[1] and its OHLC values are carved in stone.

With each incoming tick Bar[0]'s H, L, C values may change. This is called "recalculation". Contrary to what @Tekkies believes, it is not repainting, it is not refreshing. This is the way that MT4 represents incoming data streams of price information -- i.e. ticks. Ticks only affect Bar[0] -- i.e. the bar that is currently alive. Ticks do not affect historical data.

Indicators that repaint do NOT affect historical data -- they can't. Historical data is carved in stone. What repainting indicators may do is to change the location of visual markings that they had previously displayed. Whether or not an indicator repaints can readily be determined -- if you can read source code then that is the best way. If you can't read source code, then you can use MT4's Strategy Tester and run a simple simulation to check whether visual markings change with time. This is easy to do, which is why MetaQuotes includes Strategy Tester. As for why someone who has been trading for over 5 years -- or, at least claims to have been trading, still doesn't know how to use this simple tool absolutely floors me. It takes about 1 minute to learn and about 30 seconds to run. After 5 years @Tekkies absolutely refuses to learn how to use it. Actually -- that's not true. It's not that she refuses to use it but, rather, is too stupid. People who talk about repainting but don't know how to use Strategy Tester derive from the same gene pool as @Tekkies. It's okay if you don't want to learn how to use Strategy Tester -- it's not required for trading. But if you don't know what repainting is or can't even run a simple test, then you shouldn't be flapping your lips pretending you know what you are talking about. At that point you are simply adding to the pollution.

Just to be clear -- I am not advocating the use of Strategy Tester for backtesting strategies -- it's not that accurate or reliable. However, it does have some utility, including testing indicators to determine whether or not they repaint.

The question back then was asked - was it intended to be that way that the TDI paints the green line only after the price bar closed?
If it was intended to be that way, then why did he released a newer version of the Traders_Dynamic_Index in 2006/2007 which updates the lines based on every new price tick?

Big E knew the repainting issue, it was not a problem to him and but he kept to using the original version which is the version in Post#25. He mentioned this in his posts about when he would refresh his charts and when he would not refresh his charts. He looked at the price action first and the TDI was his confirmation of the price action for the trade setup.

You have been teaching people in this thread since 2016.

You still have no clue what these posts # below mean and you make reference. You have no clue what the members were discussing then. It is not matter how many times Big E used that word "refresh". He knew the TDI#25 updates the green line when the price bar closed. He also knew that the TDI#25 repaints the lines in the price history.

It is time to admit that you were wrong in your Post #73,461 and you misunderstood the meaning of the terms real-time updating/painting and the repainting of history chart. Just admit your naive mistake and all will be fine and move on.

Astounding. Years gone by, and the discussion rages on about whether the TDI repaints, again. A quick question, does it matter? The TDI is a derivative of the RSI if I recall correctly. How many here truly know the formulas that you rage over? Does it improve your bottom line? Have you developed a large enough account to be independent? Does price action matter? How about risk vs. reward? Stops? Self awareness through stats like the Kelly Criterion?

Let's say that a trader is so bad that they take every signal regardless of trend. Would that trader throw good money after bad? Would they cut losers and run the winners? Are their profit targets derived from their entry charts, or do they set profit targets on the next higher TF or two to try and max out risk and reward? So many more things to discuss rather than if a lagging indicator repaints. Not to say anyone here is dumb, of course you are all master traders. I just noticed that a lot talk goes on not about how to win, but about signals. For some of you it has been several years. Small traders can compound much faster than institutions. I do hope it is all working out for you.

#6..... Exit your trade when the green TDI line goes flat, starts to hook over or makes a check mark reversal.
#119... On this method the TDI is King. All trades are signaled by it as well as exits...
#123 Exits... Looking at your TDI... if you see:
#133 .... Check mark EXITS on the TDI. From these 3 charts you can see what to look for on EXITS via the TDI... very simple again.
#128.... TDI Roll Over or hooking over Exit Signals:
#285 ..... Simple rules, easy TDI entries and exits...
#330..... Give it a shot buddy... follow the rules, enter/exits on TDI...
#746.... same as the other except it's TDI Exits only...
#1667... and exits on the TDI...
#4005..... the TDI to determine exits.
#4107.... I would have exited both of those trades when I saw the TDI go flat, hook over or check mark reversal... easy to determine exits on any chart.

Post 336 has no TDI exit.
Post 701 next candle is at the bottom of the TDI check mark with another candle pullback... time to exit

Post 954 has no TDI exit.
