You are very confused my friend only because the entire market ,not only the Forex ,is reported to the USD.The pairs will move synchronized 50% of the time and unsynchronized the rest 50% of the time with the MOTHER currency (not with the USD) to confuse the market participants ,otherwise would be very easy to buy GBPCAD if the GBPUSD goes UP and USDCAD goes UP .In this scenario USD stronger than CAD and GBP stronger than USD will result in GBP stronger than CAD so GBPCAD also long allowing you to take the buy side with zero risk.We don't live in a perfect world my friend.There are thousands of factors that will drive the GBPCAD price.
You suggested a "perfect interconnection not smaller ,not bigger".The market is non stop looking to find a NEW value not the REAL one but a new one.Does the market seems perfect to you??
PS.I always treated Forex Pairs as individuals ,i take the MOTHER currency in consideration only in percentages.Will have influence over the pair more or less but is not the decisive factor on how i'm going to trade it.In GBPCAD will be a buy opportunity but this will not be the same in GBPJPY for example.It's not Black & White but full of nuances of Gray.
