The Brits are very busy negotiating, just not with the EU. After Theresa May did not have much to say at last weekend’s EU summit and was not centre stage she will meet her entire Cabinet at Checkers on Friday to finalise the announced White Paper at last. A solution on the question of the Irish border will finally have to be found (allegedly there is even a currently unknown third solution), but really the British government needs to find a common approach on Brexit - hard, medium hard, medium soft or soft. It would then be possible to finally present something to the EU that can be the subject of negotiations. It will no doubt not be easy for May to make all Ministers agree on a common approach, but perhaps the clean country air will help to cool the heated tempers. Next week we and the EU will hopefully know more once the White Paper has been presented. If the long awaited paper does not deliver the necessary detail, Sterling will once again suffer.
