3 month UST still trending up. Should be a good thing for USD, but is it enough against the long term down USDJPY? I guess we will see, but I will be more cautious if I short the UJ.

Don't understand how US treasuries interest rates rising can be good for the US dollar. The US has to pay that back at the higher rate. Probably print more money to do it. Keep adding to trillion dollar dept.

Interest rates rising means people and businesses will pay the cost of borrowing, not the Government (no Sovereign debt involved). So lenders will be willing to lend more money in form of buying Treasries, which means buying USD. All Treasuries are sold to banks, and banks sell it to people and businesses in form of mortgages and loans.

I'm confused. When I purchase a 10 year treasury note I pay for it up front which is lending the money to the government. In 10 years time I cash it in for what I paid plus 10 years interest at the rate specified when I purchase it. Not sure what your referring to.

Look at it this way: If you have a million dollars looking for a safe, easy investment, would you open up a savings account in Europe with interest rates of 1% or in the US with rates of 3%? To open up accounts in each country, you need to do it in their local currencies.
We're talking about hundreds of billions being transacted here by banks, foreign governments, funds, and big investors. A rate rise in the US would increase the demand for USD since investors will be putting their savings (through bond purchases) in the US and will result in USD appreciation, either long or short term. This is mostly the case. Of course, there are other variables that you need to take into consideration surrounding the value of each currency (think of a country's currency as its stock price).

Pretty quiet this morning, I suppose end of the month flows has everyone sitting on the sideline? I missed this trade but wanted to make note of it in hindsight. 30M bearish outside bar, retrace on the 5M to where the last of the buyers (trapped buyers) were sitting and a touch trade here would have yielded over a 2:1 R:R from the entry at 107.16 to where I would have looked to target at 107.
