Managed to squeeze in an hour or two after work to do more testing and analysis. This is on gold, with a 1k starting base. Never mind the fact that it doubled within a month on a 10% DD (Yes, I'm greedy) - look at the perfect hedge at the highlighted point. Mind you, this was me playing with martingale just as an experiment to test out one of my hedging ideas - and if this sustains, it could mean (at least in theory, bear with my hypothetical assumptions, I love those) that you could essentially combine a high risk, martingale strategy with a virtually...

This is really impressive man. Will wait for details how you do that.

I was using an EA which works best in volatility and then it trapped in ranging and maximum cycles 13 already hit, at next cycle, account was going to blast, but I hedged instead. Currently I have hedged USDJPY 3.05 buy and 3.05 sell (floating loss is -3500 Euro) since 2 weeks now. Don't know when to exit one side.

Maybe with your strategy, I would be able to break this hedge one day.

A pure zone recovery will go bust someday. I think it could be one of the ways to hedge but logic dictates that too many cycles will only mean that it will go bust. Try experimenting with more ways to hedge - think out of the box - you don't always have to win to win. If you know what I mean!

Yes it is pure Zone Recovery EA. I made 2800 Euro in a week and then lost all next day before Easter.

And the very next trade trapped again and now locked (hedged).

This is what I am up to now-a-days. Whether I am eating, taking shower or working in office, only this thought is in my mind, how to win with hedging. Because I don't know how to trade (so only way is hedge/grid/martingale)

Martingale, Hedging andGrid <<< MHG >>> My HolyGrail

Over 50% of freelance jobs can be classified as one form or another of MHG.
I wonder why ?

Martingale : A gamblingsystem of continually doubling the stakes in thehope of an eventual win that must yield a net profit.
Hedging : Taking equal and opposite positions in two different markets. However what most traders do is hedging on same pair at same price or on losing positions.
Grid : Adding positions on fixed distance in one or both directions regardless of price action.

So what's so special and tempting about these concepts ?
Do you really think you will find your holy grail using these methods ?

I understand that better custom forms of these methods can be used in trading, provided that you already have a trading system with an edge :

  1. Hedging :

    1. Hedging on price divergence of correlated pairs
    2. Hedging on negatively correlated pairs
    3. Scalping against your profitable longer-term positions for smaller gains on trend retraces

  2. Martingale :

    1. Averaging Down with a preset range and SL. For example, you defined a support zone between 1.0030 and 1.0010, so instead of buying one big position at 1.1020, you divide it into 3 positions, and buy at 1.0030, 1.0020 and 1.0010, all positions will share the same SL, for example at 1.0000.

  3. Grid :

    1. Dynamic (price action sensitive) Grid in the direction of existing profitable positions.

No guts, no glory

Have you ever considered basket trading? Combine enough pairs (and metals) to make a nice hedged basket where if some of the pairs go against you the others will go with you, with the net result being a profit. I have not given this much thought personally, but i had lights go on briefly then i lose them quickly. Never materialized into anything, but i am sure there is a way to combine these pairs (and metals and oil perhaps) to make that perfect diversified basket. that may be already what you are doing in your TE, but you never mentioned how you traded, so i am not sure

I have always been interested in this concept. This will free up traders time, and the basket will just "run" and you dont have to watch for certain price patterns or anything that will require you to be checking the charts periodically. I am sure alot of you have thought of this already .. Any thoughts that you can share on this subject would be appreciated I hope this is staying within the topic of this thread, if not, just please ignore my post here. I won't be offended

Check This Indicator. It Repaints on current period as it calculates Trend from higher time frame, H1 calculates Daily, H4 calculates Weekly and D1 calculates Monthly.

Signal From Last period can be taken and previous period signal doesn't repaint. Can be used for both trend and range. I've described my strategy in the image.

Share your thoughts on indicator.

Absolutely. Big fan of trading baskets. If you follow my posts you'll know that I come from a background of trading with equity, bonds and ETFs. That naturally makes me gravitate towards a well diversified portfolio. For forex I think it's important to look at your exposure to currencies to make sure that you are not overly exposed to any particular currency at any point in time.

The Indicator called "beta bands"
I guess it look like one more clone of Igor "step chart channel" indicator ,though am not sure 100%
bands might be additionally fitted along with - experts can better judge

I'm working on a lite, community edition and I'm looking for a small group of testers to do forward testing for me, just on demo until it is fully tested and proven to work.

I only have 3 slots on my VPS and so more testers would be appreciated, but I don't want to just give this away until it has been polished. Anyone interested?
