Hello, EC,

Thanks for this wonderful thread and EA. It appears to be working great. I downloaded it a couple of hours ago and started a backtest on EURUSD using the default settings from 6/1/10 through today. So far the test has been perfect. However, it's still running several hours later. I have 2 Gb of memory and 2.53 GHz processor and this test is taking forever. I'd like to be able to try lots of different scenarios, but I'm not sure I have that much time. I'll keep testing though. Thanks again.

Yeah, I'm having the same problem. I think it has something to do with the indicator, and I don't know how to get around that ... unless maybe find some other indicator?

I have started demo,
my setting

Pair: EURUSD
range: 10
level: 10
P1_offset: 0
P2_offset: 6
P_target: 3
Stealth : false
tier2_sig: true
lot-multiplier: false
increase: 0.02
power lot: true

but price is move above the level of 10, not open another trade
but profit reach 3$ or more immediately close the order, then open new order,
Ignored
You mean open a new pending order? Yeah, it will do that all day but, so long as you don't have enough funds in your account, which it sounds like if you're already up to level 10, it deletes the whole thing when it attempts to go to a market order.

You just have wait until the price goes up and the drawdown isn't so large before it opens the next order. Either that or put more funds into your account.

This is in case you are running multiple versions (on same account) and want to do basket trading I guess is what they call it. In other words it's a global close-all, which you don't need if you are only running one version (on one chart).

Oh, you can always try forward testing it on a demo account and try basket trading. This I suspect is what a lot of folks will try doing anyway.

Hey, this is what happens when deviation_reset is set to 500. It looks ugly!

Doesn't look much better when it's set to 300 either.

I think maybe what I'll try and do is cull the first trade or, the biggest loser, instead of deleting everything all at once. Or, instead of deviation, base it on percentage of account, or both. There were some folks discussing this in another thread and I think it might be a better way to go.

We'll see ...

Okay, I'm looking at it, but I don't see what the problem is? Everything looks fine, except maybe the range is a bit low ... although it doesn't have to be, depending on your strategy. If it has anything to do with the other post, I would suggest putting more funds into your account.

Oh, have you tried testing it in stealth mode, just for a different twist? It looks a lot more like original SWB. You can also try setting lot_multiplier to true, and tier2_sig to false, in which case it's almost identical to SWB stealth mode.

Okay, I just modified deviation_reset to include first trade only, plus added reset_level for more flexibility. I'm not sure if it's working properly though so, let me know if you have any problems. If you don't want use it, set deviation_reset to 0. Have included update in original post.

So, has anyone tried backtesting this at all? If you haven't, you might want to do so to get a better understanding of how it works. I know it can be a pain in the butt because it's awfully slow, but it's not too bad (in M15 or H1) when you first start out.

Basically it's a grid system, where you are trying to determine the best entry point (using indicator) for the first trade. And, if it opens but doesn't close out, it drops down to the next level and opens a trade there. And, if it doesn't close out, it drops down to the next level and does the same thing. And it will continue to do this until a big enough retrace occurs or, even if it's just choppy, where you might open and close four or five orders before proceeding, to close out all successive orders.

Of course initially a target is set which, if the first trade doesn't close out, then all the successive trades that do, contribute towards this (overall equity) which, if it happens enough times, and/or in conjunction with a big enough retrace, the target is hit (in profit) and a close-all is initiated and the cycle starts over again.

Ideally though, it would be nice to restrict the number of levels and stragglers and drawdown, and the time it takes for a retrace but, unfortunately it's a given. That isn't to say you can't do anything to improve this and try to minimize it, because you can. This is why I've attached the indicator to all the "secondary" trades. And yes, it does make a big difference. However, you still wind up playing the waiting game.

I don't know, does that make any sense?

Also, when using the SWB grid "Martingale," it basically doubles the lot size at every successive level and, although it's fun to watch (and reduces the waiting time), it can be very dangerous and blow your account in a very short period of time. This is what I'm trying to avoid. In fact, I think this system is robust enough to where it can handle a 500 or 600 point swing (or more?) without too much trouble, and still recover within a relatively short period ... a few days? It's when it starts to operate outside of this range that you get into trouble, and determines whether or not you will be successful. This is where the focus lies ...

Hey, it looks like you're using a standard account. If so, that's good to know, meaning I've addressed most of the compatibility issues. I've done all my testing on a mini account and haven't tried testing it on a standard account yet. But, if folks are already doing this and aren't having any problems, maybe I don't need to? I will probably open a standard demo account at some point though, because a mini account does have its limitations ... primarily limited access to history data.

This is why most of my testing begins on 06/17/09, because this is how far back my history files go.

Great! Will have to answer your other questions later though, because it's getting late for me.

Although I did want to let you know I added a shutoff_level for stealth mode, which adds a TP value to all levels at or greater than this setting. It sort of acts as a safety valve and allows higher trades to close out early and not get too stacked up. Try setting it on level 5 and see what happens.

The update is included in original post.

Okay. I'm not really sure how well it works anyway. I had deviation_reset set to 500 and reset_level to 3, and I wound up getting a margin call anyway. I'll have to look at this more when I get time.

deviation reset means : pip range or currency strength
This means how many points (or pips) the price has deviated from the original opening price (so long as order is still open). So, the original order may have opened at 1.4252, and the current price may be 1.3252, which is a difference of a 1000 points, or 1000 points deviation. It's just a gauge for determining how far away you are from the original entry point.

Yeah, tier2_sig is the actually indicator signal, and tier2 means secondary or "tier 2" trades that come after the first trade. When set to true, it means all trades will use indicator for entry point. When set to false, only the first trade will use the indicator for entry point. It also means secondary trades may be unevenly spaced, because they use both range (as a minimum) and indicator to determine entry points.

This automatically increase the lot size, depending on your account balance, while maintaining the same ratio. So, if you start with $500 and lot size of .05, by the time the balance reaches $1000, and doubles, the lot size will be .1 and also doubles. It's a great way to increase your lot size and maintain the same risk.

Oh, I think I may have misunderstood what you were saying here. If, in fact you have reached level 10, and the price goes higher than that, unless of course you really don't have the funds in your account, it won't open any more trades until you set it to a higher level, for example, level 15.
