Would like to dedicate this Thread to how to determine the TREND so post your ideas here.
Share your ideas on how you determine trend.

What do you use to determine the trend, do use a moving average, do you look from left to right or right to left or do you determine trend as a time specific factor.
My eyes. What exactly do you mean? If you want, you could run a 21 EMA and check what angle it's pointing but direction of the trend is pretty basic stuff I'd think
Look at 1H, 4H or higher time frames on one chart. Look at price on left side of chart and then look at last price on right side. Draw a line or use your eyes to determine what direction trend is going.


Look at examples given... it's that simple my friend.

any blind duck with a glass eye in it's ass will also be able to see the trend.....

trends are easy to identify once they're happening. it's identifying the start and ends of the trends that is the hard part. as for identifying the trend, like the guy above, i use my eyes. the way i identify the start and end is a secret.

I hope you guys do not think for a second that i am asking for your help on how to determine TREND it is just suppose to be a dicussion that all can benefit.

If you ask me how i determine TREND, i use 4 creteria and 3 trend have levels:

1. time specific

2. super trend

3. major trend

4 minor trend

With these 4 steps you will know when the TREND is strong or weak.

All that nonse about look to the left and the right is a fools paradise.

CTGUY says look at the 1hr and 4hr fine but if the is a retracement coming how deep are you willing to take the drawdown.

There is more but this should start the new traders on the right part.

CTGUY you your system is just half-way there, the commonsense approach is to look at the 1hr and 4hr then you go to a smaller timeframe and then trade in the direction of the bigger timeframe.

Your comments are welcome but not your nonsense because i trade for a living also and being doing it for over ten years.

This thread is suppose to help the new traders.

Wow... a full time trader posting. I don't get to run into someone of your calibre on this forum. I need to tell others that we had the honor of your posting. Did you publish a book whereas I can get a signed copy?

Now, to get to the real world here. Your thread posting appeared that you were a new trader asking for instructions on how to determine trend direction. You should have correctly posted your method of determining trend direction as if you were enlisting your experience. You should have made your title of the thread "My way of determing trend direction".
If you were paying attention and reading the replies here, you would have read two postings on how experienced traders determine trend directions which is the easiest way for all to learn. You would have also noticed that the time frames to look at also. It doesn't matter which order you view them, as long as you can tell if your in the same direction as the trend. Also, determining trend direction is not a system, it is a method. This method is not a fools paradise but used by the best of traders.

I am glad that your a full time trader...have you made the big leap from micros to mini lots yet? I suggest that you look at profiles before you post in a stupid manner if you feel like challenging someone in the future. The homework would have prevented you to post foolishly to someone that is far ahead of yourself with trading years, experience and more successful. When someone replies nicely to your post as I have, you should return with a thank you... instead of attacking them.

I seriously have problems with his statement that he is a fulltime trader. I sense immaturity and lack of communication skills. This is the same guy that tried to steal Tdions trading journal and was told to leave several times.

he clearly mentions in his first post in this thread 'share your ideas' I thought u did that so why the hell is he attacking u. Your post on how u determine was of great help since u've been in this market for a decade and I have only been in this market 2-3 yrs. Anywayz mate ur welcome.

I am always one to help others. As hectic as my schedule is and as a professional full time trader and doing so as a business, I still take time to share my very successful trading system and assisting others with their questions. My pm box has many entries from traders that thank me for my time that I use to help others. Those traders that do know my success ask me how I do find the time to return her and contribute. I have a very uplifting personality and barely nothing gets me down. That is why I don't understand the attack on me.

The REAL key is: You know the trend, but do you know when to get in?

I like Jacko's posts and I do believe that the trend is your friend, but he also talks about buying the dips and selling on the highs. From my demo trading using his system, that really seems to be the key to all this. Yes, the trend will take care of you in the end, but knowing which dip to get in on and having the confidence to take a long position as a pair is (temporarily) falling, is the REAL key.
