Hi
Any chance to make these two indicators non-redrawing AFTER close of the bar(s) (arrow appearance)?
I'm allready looking what I have to change but can't find it specifically.

You already posted your request elsewhere, perhaps another programmer will help you. Time is valuable, there's no point in two programmers doing the same work.

Thanks for your reply. Was not trying to be annoying, just seemed that my post on the other thread got behind really quick and I thought it was something quick to change. My bad!

hello hanover....

good day!

do you think it is possible to use period converter codes to automatically creates the custom time frame (HST file) with the following type of action.

  1. upon selection of time frame from the drop down menu, it creates the custom Time Frame(s) - HST file
  2. upon clicking the symbol button, it creates the custom Time Frame(s)

...at the moment, what I have done only is using the standard MT4 Period converter or P4L Period Converter (by Pips4Life) to create custom HST TFs, and that is the only time it can work with the indicator.

I'm sorry, but I'm not knowledgeable enough to answer your question. I don't do a lot of work with period converters; you would need to ask pips4life how his converter operates. Also, I still do all of my coding using the build 509 editor/compiler, which does not allow objects like symbol buttons or timeframe-based dropdowns in the Inputs parameters list.

no issues sir... thanks for the prompt response.

I just decided to let the user do some extra work and not to automate anymore ; )- besides the indicator is free.... no need to spoon feed too much ; )-

I asked because I only coded for about a year only... and still learning.

Possible causes/solutions:

1. This is an old indicator, written before the MT4 programming language change in build 600. It might not work correctly on the latest MT4 builds, and/or on Windows 10.

2. You could try changing the RefreshPeriod to T (see screenshot below). This should cause the plots (and the labels above them) to recalc/replot on each new price tick.

3. Keep in mind that the chart only updates when there is a price tick for its native currency pair (e.g. if the chart is EURUSD, there must be a tick for EURUSD for MT4 to poll all of the indicators/EAs attached to that chart). Whereas the time counter in Market Watch's header panel updates every time there is a price tick for ANY pair/instrument listed in the Market Watch.

I have attached ROS to my MT4, with the settings shown in the screenshot. It seems to be updating the plots and labels correctly. I am running Pepperstone MT4 build 1090 and Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1.

I can not test the indicator on Windows 10. My computer runs Windows 7 only.

In your first screenshot, the last time a price tick on the EURUSD chart (on which indicator has been attached) might have been at 02:59. If that is so, then the indicator will not have been updated for 03:00. Opening additional historical charts will not change this. There is nothing that I can do to change the way that MT4 operates.

From what I've read, spot FX is a decentralized market, hence any depth of market numbers would represent tick volume for your br0ker only.

Hi David. Thanks for doing this for so long.

Can you please comment on whether there is anything special that you do when you have done these updates? Is it just to keep adding the more recent news events -- as the weeks go by -- to the existing file? Or do you also cleanup and/or edit any of the recent items as you add it to the archive?

I'm not even sure that one can grab very old (2007) news events off of FF any more. Even if yes, you've still saved a ton of work for us to do all that downloading of old data.

Obviously, the big value of legacy news data is to be able to go back and review/study historical events, or even better, to make EA's "news aware", which of course, can then only be back-tested as such if there is historical data to work with. I haven't done that yet but I may get around to it eventually.

The NewsDownloader.exe app that I use to download the events from the FF calendar HTML is available here. Version 4 was written using Autohotkey's scripting language. Plot News versions 1, 2 and 3 (all of which no longer work due to changes to the FF calendar HTML format) were all written using my old (16-bit) Clarion v5.5 which I purchased circa 1996, but when I bought a new PC with Win7 64-bit, my antiquated Clarion no longer ran, thus I was no longer able to update the downloader whenever FF's programmers made changes to the calendar HTML. Hence Plot News v4 got written using Autohotkey, largely because I couldn't cost justify upgrading to the latest Clarion.

I've since remedied this by running VMware player which allows me to run Win XP, and hence good old Clarion 5.5, as a sub-process. Despite this, the trouble-ridden (problems explained in the thread) Autohotkey-written downloader remains the latest version. And given that I spend less time on FX nowadays, I might never get around to upgrading the Clarion-written downloader app.

Anyway, enough about the history of Plot News, and onto your questions: Mostly I just add news events to the end of the archive. However, normally I'll go back a month or two, on the off chance that FF might have revised this data. The downloader can potentially be used to gather news events back as far as the FF calendar permits, hence anybody could use it to update data from any time period that they wish. However, Autohotkey's generated code is less efficient than Clarion's, and downloading several months' worth of news data can take several minutes. I don't use the old historical data myself, hence I don't bother with perfect upkeep. My only use for Plot News is to plot upcoming news events on my charts.

I didn't know that MT4 has standard HA candles built into it (I'm running Pepperstone build 1090 and can't find that facility).

Anyway, I've attached the third party indicator used to plot HA candles shown in the screenshot below. I typed Ctrl-D to open MT4's Data Window, which shows the exact OHLC values of the candles, as you run the mouse cursor across them........ is that along the lines of what you mean?

I'm sorry, but I'm not doing any coding nowadays unless the indicator/EA is useful to me personally.

And anyway, I'm not familiar with the language of the code that you've uploaded. I see that you've also posted in the "I code for free" thread, I hope that some other programmer is able to help you.
