I have my doubts about Trump's professed belief in any God without an L in it (GOLD). To me his lack of morality suggests he doesn't fear Divine judgement. But he certainly knows how to fan religious fervor in his supporters, and use it to his advantage. Which fans the heat in any perceived Christian Vs. Muslim conflict, providing our adversaries with an endless supply of religious zealots eager for battle and a chance to meet Allah. 'There are several reasons for Iran to support present regime of Syria-

  1. Iran has few allies in the Arab world and its most important one is Syria. Their relationship dates back to the years after the 1979 Islamic revolution in Iran. There are many kinds of rebels in Syria (including Al-Queda), they are not friend of Iran.
  2. For religious reason. Bashar Al-Assad is from Alawite community(which is like as Shia). So they are trying to protect Assad regime.
  3. Hezbollah is one of the main factors. Assad supports & helps Hezbollah. Iran knows, if rebels come to power they won't support Hezbollah. As the BBC notes:"They needed to come together to fight their common rival, Saddam Hussein of Iraq. They also allied in order to check Israeli advances into Lebanon and to prevent any American attempts to enter the Middle East.
    "Each provided support to the Lebanese armed movement Hezbollah and to the Palestinian armed groups Hamas and Islamic Jihad.
    "Syria has consistently provided Iran with an element of strategic depth. It gives Iran access to the Mediterranean and a supply line to Iran's Shia Muslim supporters in southern Lebanon next to the border with Israel."
  4. As Assad is anti-Israel, so The Islamic Republic of Iran has conducted an extensive, expensive, and integrated effort to keep President Bashar al-Assad in power as long as possible to resist Israel. Syria is vital to Iran’s strategic interests in the Middle East and has long been Iran’s closest state ally. The Assad regime has provided crucial access to Iranian proxies, including Lebanese Hezbollah, Hamas, and Palestinian Islamic Jihad, allowing Iran to move people, weapons, and money to these groups through Syrian territory."

So reinstating oil sanctions against Iran must to be under serious consideration in Trump Tower.....

Trump was against Obama lifting sanctions against oil. Now, on Feb 23rd this....."The Trump administration on Friday imposed sanctions on Iran, which it said were just "initial steps" and said Washington would no longer turn a "blind eye" to Iran's hostile actions.....The White House said that while the sanctions were a reaction to recent events, they had been under consideration before......Suggesting that more concrete action could follow if Iran does not curb its ballistic missile program and continues support in regional proxy conflicts,..."

not really in the discussion.. but is anyone out there with some expertise more than my novel understanding. on why the Russian Sams didnt get a single hit? did the u.s. simply place the flyover trajectory out of their reach. Did Russia simply not fire the Sams? or is this u.s. technology, that more superior in avoiding Russian Sams? if the later, Putin may be soiling himself. Again maybe not if the whitehouse is a fan. What is the point of Putin placing Sams, that he didnt use? If they are inferior to U.S. weaponry. many more who bought this crap are soiling themselves. hello Iran, are you paying top ruble for crap?

lets not be fooled, Russia knew about and maybe even dropped the chemicals. it came from russian planes regardless of the planes owner. Putin nevertheless is the reason convulsive dying babies were on the tv. courtesy of Putin and Iran.

Good question. This line in the article gives the impression that if the Russians Wanted to they could have shot down some missiles...."Beefing up the Russian SAM element in Syria with a cutting-edge S-400 Triumph (SA-21 Growler) long-range SAM system has considerably improved the AD coverage of the key facility, Hmeymim AB, and allowed reaching targets flying at higher altitudes and speeds. After what Russia had to say at the U.N. talks regarding any reprisals against Syria by the U.S., It seems unlikely that they would give their consent to the firing of America"s missiles. A bit on an enigma.

....defending against cruise missiles is hard because they can fly a torturous path, accelerate/decelerate, and often will fly close to the ground, hard or impossible to detect with surface radar

On the rest of the board, NFP first but there will plenty of trading opps in the upcoming days in all war/conflict industries (v.'good' ews for the UK arm sector too) that were already picking up since the last budget hike announcement but this will trigger the start of a golden age under Trump.

Expecting action and lots of it in the upcoming sessions....

Seeing reports that Assad's air-force has been decimated in the strike especially his best aircraft: SU-22s and Mig-23's. A horrible move, being cheerleaded by neocons and the media complex- remember WMD?- that looks likely to alter the balance of power in the region and add more fuel to the conflict.

On the Syrian front, markets settling down after the initial reaction after getting confirmation from Russia was all on board and well informed before the strike (basically what it comes later in the US will be [and sadly] pretty much theatre for the media and unaware masses]. However, market wise it did the trick with the commodities board on the move.

Good numbers from the EZ keep coming but we got a small short-circuit from France (something to keep an eye in the upcoming data) while UK numbers keep slowly softening in the las few weeks (and obviously T.May bully position in the last few weeks accordingly) especially in the real estate and construction sector that holds one of the keys markets are tracking for Brexit.

We are set for a NFP that is a bit less important macro wise than today's NY open ....

Where do you see London property prices going over the next two years please? Some areas have seen large reductions in prices while the fringe areas are holding up.
