Heh. No one's upset or anything. It's just how it is.

Trust me, I do this for a living. I educate people on Information Security... I've been doing it for years. This type of thing happens ALL the time.

All I'm doing is raising awareness. That's all I can do. Heck, I think the guy's idea is fantastic... I hope he ends up being a rockstar from it (BTW, can we get a chat room module on that badboy?!) , but at the end of the day, it's your financial income... your business.

It's kinda like opening your store one day, and some guy walks in and says, "Hey, I can make your computer run faster and your orders process faster if you install the program..."

Would you let him do it? Of course you wouldn't.

Heck, the dude seems nice on a forum, he's got cute kids, heck, even his wife seems to be relatively happy, but that doesn't mean he doesn't have nefarious intentions...

People get complacent. They don't think that it could happen to me.

It does.

So what are the odds? It's probably ok. But it's not for me right now... that's all I'm saying.

God bless America.

You must be riot to watch when buying a used car. "How d I know you didn't cut the brake lines?":

btw. how come GBA doesn't show up in the posted version of this? Perhaps we should be wary of you :surprised

Oh Now it does. maybe I missed it originally.

Damn, busted. You're good!

I have a proposal. Given your valid concerns, and the fact that I have no way of proving them invalid, would you be willing to analyze my product? if you would be willing to analyze my code and verify for this community that it isn't malicious, I would be willing to give you the client code. (Given that you agree not to distribute, re-use, etc.)

Could you set up templates to solve this kind of problem perhaps? Then manually override values you want different?

I wonder if this app will work under wine on linux..? If not then back to windoze then...

More channels, not sure if these have been mentioned:

1. trend trading
2. bwilc trading
3. hedging
4. range trading

Also howabout a favourites channel where you can follow traders you like?

Just my tuppence worth...
Ignored
Good ideas on the channels.

As for the favorites channel, I'll probably create User Groups in the future to accomplish this. Channels aren't really designed to be personalized like that, they're all publically accessible and joinable.

Sorry about the linux thing. I used to be a linux zealot... until I needed a job. Then I had to switch to the dark side. Perhaps your linux browser will work with the web version when released.

Girdle66, first of all I would like to personally thank you for all the time and hard work you put into creating the "napster of forex." What a great idea my man. It is unfortunate you have to deal with people who think you are trying to scam them... but unfortunately we live in a world were honesty exists no more. Look man, I just wanted to let you know that I respect and value as I'm sure many others do, the time and effort you put into creating such a program. You are the man. Keep up the good work, it is well appreciated.

Peter,

I appreciate your appreciation. I know you weren't complaining, and I understand what you're saying. I went down the same thought process myself during development. But from a development perpective the word "probably" always raises a red flag.

Let's say that you wanted to be alerted when 60% of traders agreed in EUR/USD, but you also wanted to be alerted when 85% of traders agreed in a less common currency pair (AUD/USD.) If you set the EUR/USD value after the AUD/USD, it's not safe to assume that you want the 60% value to overwrite the 85% value. And if there's no alert value set on a currency pair, then it's even more assumptuous for the program to automatically create one just because you entered a value for EUR/USD. Does that make sense?

I see what you're saying, it's kind of a pain to set them all up individually. Another user commented on that eariler as well. But I don't see a better way to do it that gives the end user full granularity and control.

I'm definitely open to suggestions though. Let me know if you have any.
Ignored
Haven't seen the program yet, but global update and exclude control could be a possibility. then you only need to set one. but as I said I haven't seen it.

"What IF I miss something and it Does turn out to be malicious? Does that put MY credibility on the line?"

I have no idea of expense or even if this would solve it but would a "Verisign" alleviate concerns?

ps. I've been running it since day 1.

regarding the concerns, that the application could do some nasty things, i see only three possible solutions:

1) if you have the requied knowledge, you can use tools such as Reflector
to check, what the application is doing - you do not neet the source code from the author, the application can be disassembled

2) you trust the author, or you trust someone who has done 1), or you trust someone who trusts someone who has done 1), or you trust.... you get the idea... there must be a trust chain

3) you do not use the application

you choose

cheers

oh, there is a fourth option:

4) run the application in sandboxed enviroment. there are two versions possible. Either you dedicate a machine (can by a virtual machine, like vmaware) to run the application, or, if you have the skills, you can configure the .NET Code Access Security, to run this application with lower permissions (as far as i can see, the application saves it's settings on the server, so it probably doen't even needs file access)

You're right Robik, nothing gets saved client side. It's all sent back to the server. This will allow for a sort of "floating profile", in case you use the application from multiple PC's.

There is a fifth option as well, if someone doesn't feel comfortable or technically inclined enough for the first four. Wait until I put out the web version. This will take a little time as I'm concentrating first on the 2.0 downloadable app, but it will come at some point.

Robik, perhaps you could share with the group. Did you take any of your own recommendations? Can you vouge for the code's integrity?

Deepest apologies to anybody using the service this afternoon between 4-5:00 CST. We had some temporary issues with the servers causing the service to be unavailable for a short period of time. I won't let it happen again.

Hey all-

I just wanted to let you all know that I've decided to take the system public at http://www.napstex.com in the interest of increasing our user base. Thanks to those who are using the software and have posted back with ideas for version 2.0, it should be out for beta testing by October 1st and public by November 1st. The web version may be out by the end of the year, but I make no promises! :

Anywho, thanks again for those who are using the system. It's been fun trading with you the past week or so, I hope it continues.

-g

p.s. Merlin, if you ever read this post and still want to integrate live napstex system stats on FF just shoot me a PM or email. I can't find your email address and your PM's are off.

Hey, <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o></o>

New here.<o></o>

This is amazing!!<o></o>

I'm all over (well, almost) the internet for months, looking for good quality ideas, forums, etc, regarding trading forex and other.<o></o>

I've found this forum last week, and after tons of reading throughout the forum I'm pretty sure – found what I was looking for. <o></o>

Great ideas and setups, and great people. <o></o>

As for the napstex (great name – I like the new site) – this is going to be THE NEXT BIG THING in the forex trading.<o></o>

Imagine thousands, or even millions of traders putting their trades... WOW. <o></o>

Great idea, Gridle. I started using the software today. Looking forward to "feel" the millions. <o></o>

Thanks . <o></o>

Thanks, I hope you find it helpful. Shoot me a PM with any ideas or suggestions. Version 2.0 is gonna be much cooler (chat room, weighted orders, etc.), I should be done with the beta version sometime in the next couple of weeks. Hopefully I'll have it ready for release by Mid October. I'll keep this thread updated.

Hi Gridle,<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o></o>

<o></o>

The main problem i see with this program is that too few know about it and use it.<o></o>

Now, for example, there are only 13 traders putting their trade...<o></o>

I think you should get to as much people as you can, first from this forum and then with the site you opened.<o></o>

I hope that not the fear of spyware is what keeps people out. <o></o>

There is another thing to solve here: Not all my trades I put manually, some are automated when I'm out with entry, sl and tp (sometimes few). There is no way I can put these trades in the Napstex ... http://www.forexfactory.com/forexfor...cons/icon9.gif<o></o>

Waiting for mid October - hey, take your time -
