if a pair's price makes a move or reversal, either Bullish or Bearish, there will usually be an increase in volatility. In that case, the ATR will be on the rise. This can be used as a way to gauge the underlying strength of the move. The more volatility in a large move, the more interest or pressure there is reinforcing that move.
On the other hand, during periods of sustained sideways movement, volatility is frequently low. This could assist in the discovery of trading ranges.

Volatility does not say anything about the trend strength or the trend direction, but it tells you how much price fluctuates. Thus, volatility measures (un)certainty and (in)decisiveness in the markets.

Volatility = How much price fluctuates around the average price. In a high volatility environment, price candles usually have long wicks, you can see a mix of bearish and bullish candles, and their candle body is relatively small compared to the wicks.

Momentum = Momentum is the exact opposite. Momentum describes the trend strength into one direction. In a high momentum environment, you typically see only one color of candles (very few candles moving against the trend) and small candle wicks.

The screenshot below shows the differences. The ATR measures volatility, while the RSI measures momentum. Scenario (1) shows a high volatility and low momentum phase; lots of candle wicks and back and forth, but price is only going down slowly. At point (2), you mostly see white candles, almost no candle wicks; this is a low volatility and medium momentum phase. At point (3), you can almost only see red candles and very few candle wicks; this is a low volatility and high momentum phase.

Thus, the cleanest trends can be found in a low volatility and high momentum period, whereas a low momentum and high volatility time should be avoided.

hi to all i use this metode is very profitable and you have more chance with this metod and can catch big move on market metod is very simple using: simple moving average 200 + simple moving average 55 + simple moving average when sma5 cut sma200 we take position and when sma5 cut sma55 we close position. if trend again move on direction of the trend we can again enter when sma5 cut sma55 and exit when sma55 cut sma 5 good luck {image}
Ignored
1 Why do you enter here? The 5 sma cut the 55 sma not the 200.
2 Why not long here? 5 sma cut the 200 sma.
3 After your exit, ther is a cut back upwards, when you antered at 1 point why not re-enter here?
4 There is a cut too, not noticable but is there. Why not enter there, like at 1 point?

There is a MA crossover indicator. Whan you attach it to the chart you will see, how many false signal are there. Pur MA-crossower dont work I think. It need PA, or some HTF rules to see where the price is going.

ATR is the average true range. You can see the average move in the adjusted period.

ADX average directional index. Whit this indicator you can determine when the pair is trending and when is in sideways. (do lag of course)

Does anyone here have time to backtest this system? If so, I have drafted an EA that can be used for back-testing and forward testing.
The EA is written in MT5 - which can be downloaded from MQL5.com for free.
It can place LIVE orders ... so don't try it on your live account.
Feel free to change the EA if you think I have mis-interpreted the rules.
More importantly, please share your findings.

This seems like a very reasonable, simple strategy. I will try this out as it seems pretty similar to the MA cross I have been trying to crack for the last few months.

I am using the UniversalMAcross EA by firedave, and you can adjust the setting somewhat to match your rules. It's not exact, but the main cross orders are opened as described.

The only problem is, I just backtested on a few pairs using the rules here, and the code still needs some work. The original coder said he was too busy to try and modify the script to how I see it, but maybe someone else can give it a try, or add anything else they see fit. I believe adding the option to close orders on the 3rd MA cross (ExitOn3MAcross) would greatly benefit the program, and could then also be used for the 5-55-200 crosses. I tried adding the lines at 314 (ExitOn3MAcross) but it didn't work, as my coding skills are very novice and I don't know what it would take to operate that function correctly.

Let's see if anyone else can figure it out. I have found some amazing settings to use but they always fall short at some point due to the improper exits.
