I can't be proud because I am still in a loss position.
My original capital is $700. A did a few stupid things by cutting positions whenever they are against me rather than being patient. All those that I closed with big losses - if I had just waited a bit more, they would all have been profitable positions. Like NotaTrader, I am also not a fan of using SL - the exception is GBPJPY because that pair's movements can sometimes be too much. But I am learning each day and happy to say that I have started turning my account around by the time it hit $330. Took me three weeks to get it to $484 - piece of cake for some but was a lot of hard work for me. Hopefully I will recover my full $700 and start making some real profits!

Whats the platform you trade in? the hardest thing for me when i started was when i only had 1k and every position i opened below 50k was charged fixed comissions so the intraday trades became a pain in the ass to make to be honest once you get to 5k everything becomes so much easier.. you have much less laverage and much less risk with good payouts and you can actually start building your networth and take some monthly salary..
Just my opinion. bellow 5k the chances you have to blow your acc because of fixed comissions that saxobank charges are huge..

Nothing wrong with a move like this. 360 pips move cannot destroy your account unless you start your session with 40, 50 or 80 lot. Besides, the price in your example goes strait up again, which will give you opportunities to recover pretty quickly. Let's say you start with 10 shares (assumed 1$ per share per pip). In the worst case you will find yourself with a negative 3600$ balance when the price hits 0.8400. If you open another 10 shares at this point, you will be able to recover at 0.9700 and by the time the price comes back to where it was, you will have 1800$ profit.
Respectivelly with only one share that would give you 360$ negative balance and 180$ profit in the end.

If you ask me, this is not bad at all compared to the option of losing your money irreversibly when the price hits your Surrender target.

I am using oanda. The cost incurred is just the spread. My only issue is I can't hedge,otherwise I am overall okay with Oanda. As trading is something I do "recreationally", and not to make big money, opening a 5k account is just way too much for me.

I say this as a complete amateur and my view might change much later on, but at this juncture and considering how small I trade, I don't find stop loss useful. I will just end up having my SL hunted and getting my positions closed with losses and having to start over. Instead I prefer to keep my positions small so that I weather the big moves. I am not saying this is better or wiser or more profitable per se, but it is what works for me at this point. And I don't deny that the problem might just be me not setting my SL correctly. I am sure I will keep refining my methods as I go along. At the end of the day, mine is a very small account so I can't compare myself with the rest of you and what works for you might not work for me, and vice versa. And I just want to end off saying I am not being stubborn about this, because I might change this view somewhere down the road.

That wasn't a 360pip move and the move happened within 1 minute. I'll let you work it out though. Brokers went out of business on that one move alone across all Swiss crosses. I'm a big fan of using SL (guaranteed SL). Every trade should have an entry point, a potential target and a point where you will say you are wrong, a place where your SL should be. It's only a probability game in the end and trying to win every trade by not using SL doesn't sound like good business.
But if not using a SL works for you, all the best.
