This guy is my absolute nemesis at the moment and frustrating the hell out of me. Not being unkind he prob a nice guy, but every time I see him at the moment I just want to slap him.

Yeah looks like it might run to test prior to NFP. Was correlating strongly last few months with EM and UJ but it has decided to play its own trumpet at the moment.

This article is even more scary. I worked in big data analytics and data intelligence for over 15 years and it all sounds great in theory but it doesn't work so well in practice. Like science, lot of the time there has to be a hole lot of assumptions built into the algorithm. No matter how many algorithms you have for different scenarios and the cause and effect relationships you are still dealing with humans.

Take this statement for example;
Google wont have to be perfect. It wont have to be correct all the time It will just have to be better on average than me. And that is not so difficult, because most people dont know themselves very well, and most people often make terrible mistakes in the most important the time.

In reality we know ourselves very well and what the right decision is, we just choose to choose the wrong one for what ever reason at the time. Say eat a cake when we should eat an apple etc.

Taking it to the wider picture from what on the surface seems innocent as they are discussing consumerism, lets take the same process to protectionism, control-ism, and the biggest issue is you get Government departments making decisions on these algorithms on what is best for us, what we should do etc. They are normally singular in focus and don't look at the greater picture on individuals and the cause and effect of one decision on another circumstance.

Anyway thats my rant - good article thought regardless of whether you agree with it or not. Its the interpretation wright!

Well my view is that whatever is coming will just end up being Bollox2.0 and so on and so on. Are we any better off now after billions of years? I doubt it, just nattier packaging.

I think big data is causing a lot of good changes the only problem is it will always get taken to extreme and have a lot of negatives effects as well that will not be considered.
