COMMERCIAL TRADING
Big lots is when you start trading yards or half yards!
A yard is a slang term but commonly used in commercial circles.
1 standard lot = 100 000 currency units.
1 yard of currency = 10 000 standard lots (10 000 lots * 100 000 currency units) = $1Billion
Half yard of currency = 5 000 standard lots (5 000 lots * 100 000 currency units) = $500 Million

RETAIL TRADING
From a retail trading perspective lets suggest what big retail lots might mean.....
Most retail brokers set upper limits on the volume traded per position (but not all retail brokers have limits).
This typically ranges from 100 standard lots to 1 000 standard lots.
So for me personally to classify a retail trader as a large lot trader that individual would need to be trading at least 100 lots minimum per position with several occurrences of position sizes greater than 100 lots.
ps. I wonder if our friend still considers that they are a 'big lot' trader now!
