Nation states are a rather young notion / concept 500 years only since Westphalia. Which is nothing really in historical terms. Feudalism in the medieval ages arguably lasted a bit longer. i don't really expect either they will be replaced any time soon either. I am realist but doesn't mean I am against progress and better options.

However, is again about the principle not the fact. If you want to evolve and move forward you need to think beyond as you will raise the bar so societies can keep making small steps towards a bigger goal with bette conditions for humans as a whole.

Its like, as extreme but relevant examples Why bother abolishing child labour in factories in the UK after the industrial revolution or slavery in the US or woman right to vote or anything if nothing really changed in the short term ... its because as long as you keep moving towards a higher goal the best chances for positive change in the long run.

In that sense, in 20,200 or 2000 years people will laugh at us of our notion of nation state constraint by borders. Point is there are universal values that are higher than lines in a map or the colour of your passport, religion or skin. Looking inwards and in isolation is never a step forward but is a step backwards. It always has been and it alway will be ....

ok i am not going to analyse it further than that

i like to speculate meaning to "explore" possibilities

i dont like just "viewing" them (theory word wise comes from the same "name" greek word which in turn is derived from another greek word which actually means "viewing/observing")


so what i meant i dont like viewing things i prefer trading/exploring/deciding on/etc them

in this case i prefer not trading what i see or what the theories are (i hope i am not misunderstood)

bare in mind that we had the same scenario with the Scotland case... the "poor/rural" ones wanted to be on their own while the "city fellows" (educated/rich with jobs etc) to stay as it is...

at the end the ones who wanted solo didnt turn up to vote either because they thought it was a done deal in favor of Scotland becoming independent (because of the polls etc)...


does anyone know if the result is going to be presented in "one go" or each region will announce its results separately as it happens with general elections and happened with Scotland ?

lets not forget that the voting takes place on a thursday not a weekend so its going to be "fun" watching the PA

It's not up to the voters to decide whether or not Britain stays in the EU. any vote that is not obviously swayed (80-20 for example) will be altered to suit the wills of those in power. Period. If you THINK for a second that is not the case, then you do indeed live in a utopian fantasy land.

We are talking the economic outcome of not only countries, but the billionaires within those countries.

Voting is simply playing pretend. No matter the country, hemisphere, 1st or 3rd world.

I find it quite difficult to tell the difference between democracy aka capitalism and communism. Considering Ireland also had a referendums (plural) in relation to stay or leave be it the Nice treaty or Lisbon treaty = the passing of power to foreign powers with no accountability!

We voted "No" so they held another one shortly after until they got a YES.. funny they didn't hold another one in case we changed our minds again.. The Billionaires have already positioned themselves with either outcome, protecting their wealth is always number 1... especially in highly taxed environments.. Maybe we are heading into a phase where politics will sway more control over the financial futures of us all... after all greed is good..lol

I don't see culture in the UK as being destroyed in the slightest - the fear of this is something that the far right often prey on. Culture is an ever evolving phenomenon, never static. I live in London and enjoy many of the same things as I did from years ago and, thankfully, I also enjoy many more because of immigration and my eyes being continually opened to the wider world.

London (where I was born) is a highly diverse global city, in terms on inward migration from the EU and every country in the world, and it has an economy that is the envy of much of the world. It is an open and accepting city, a place with the most EU migration and also the place where UKIP, the promulgators on the dangers of free movement of people, fare considerably worse compared to the rest of the UK (note that in General Elections EU migrants do not get a vote). There is also greater support in London than other parts of England for remaining within the EU. This should speak volumes and provide balance to the rest of the UK on the realities of EU migration.

I want the UK to be as outward looking, working in closer collaberation with other countries to deal with the great challenges facing the world: climate change, food scarcity, poverty, wars, terrorism, migration, achieving sustainable and balanced economic growth... The worst way to move forward is for all countries to splinter, act in their own selfish interests, in beggar-thy-neighbour policies that do nothing to advance humanity and the common good.
