first make sure it's fubar, run a malwarebytes and a hitmanpro scan (be super careful of the second one). Use something like Ccleaner to clean up the registry and make sure your HD is completely defragged. If you want to run dual monitors off of a laptop you might need to move into a gaming system, they're not cheap. They are however built to run cooler than your average laptop which will extend the life of the video cards etc. I've been running an Asus G74 almost 24 hours a day for five years. I use it to manage a handful of local Dell T7500 workstations I use for modeling, a database/server and two Amazon EC2's, all via Windows desktop. It has served me pretty well and was a good deal cheaper than a workstation grade laptop. It might be overkill for what you're doing but probably worth checking out. The one I have won't run dual monitors but a lot of new ones will.
When you hit 50, coffee becomes part of a proper modeling pipeline.
