Hi - I am very new to this.
I bought just before the weekend started at 1.4527, but this update did not show up in my Pulse500 application. Is this normal? When should I expect this to update?

Some thoughts.

Oil is a commodity and is affected by supply and demand, if supply exceeds demand and price elasticity is very low, then price will fall hard.

But CAD is a currency, and CAD economy is not all about oil, even if oil gets hammered, the other party of the economy has to live on.

The price action of CAD suggest that market maybe pricing in a BOC rate cut this week on 20th Jan and maybe a Fed hiking on 23rd of Jan, is this rational?

BOC cut rate further may cause runaway inflation in Canada, and because Canadians imports most of daily necessities, people's living standard will be hit hard, is the government not going to do anything about it?

Currency trading is continous, 24x7. Retail platform will shut down over the weekend, but inter-bank market will continue, the price change is reflected on xe.com

So in a sense there is not really a Sunday opening gap, it is just a price discontinuity on retail platforms.

Now it falls back within 1.46, in another blink of eyes.

Sorry for spamming this thread, but this is kind of exciting.

Watch this pair really taught me a lot over the past few months. The price action and the greedy and fear behind it is text book classic and not to be seen everyday in every pair

Update: it retake 1.46 in just a few minutes. Is 1.46 becoming the new support now?

I know this is the official exchange rate, which is BS anyway and nowhere close to its craziness on the black market, but it is still fun to see the chart

This is true but XE doesn't show all of the activity over the weekend. It only shows a few hours before and after retail market close
Be hopeful in a winning position, and fearful in a losing position.

Me either, XE is what I use too. But I don't think banks trade much over the weekends either, unless it is an emergency. Otherwise price would gap more often and would gap by a larger amount.

USDCAD is starting to look like the Ruble


Could do 1.60 no problem. If you think about it fundamentally, Canada never should have been anywhere near parity with US

Hard to believe at one time CAD was worth more than USD
