Hi Traders,
Has anyone traded or currently trading with Activtrades? I'm particularly interested to know how traders within UK and Europe find them.
I noticed they have decent spread, how are they offering such low spreads when they aren't ECN?

If anyone has any better alternative UK based(and FCA regulated) broker then do let me know

I am trading with them for about 8 month now. All good so far. Professionell support, no execution issues, no requoting so far. Withdrawing works as well.
Indeed they are an STP Broker, not a true ECN!

Got 4 Live accounts in total and don't see any reason to complain.

They got hacked some month ago and reduced the spreads in consequence as an apology.

BTW: there's already a thread dealing with ActiveTrades ... http://www.forexfactory.com/showthread.php?t=526293. Keep the forum clean!

I've traded live with them, no problems at all, Deposits and withdrawals work fine. I used them because I wanted to have access to MT5, but that need is no more and I went back to Oanda, which in my opinion is the best broker out there, regulated in the UK (European division).

I think you won't go far wrong with either Oanda or ActivTrades.
Activtrades is a verry good and reliable broker. The spread is verry good and the spread is still good during major news events.

I've traded with them for two years now, no complaints so far. Bear in mind I'm not a scalper (my open positions last around 1-5 days) so I don't care about spread costs or widening of spreads around news events very much.

I've chosen them because I couldn't find any other regulated retail broker where clients' funds are individually covered up to 500,000 pounds and who also offers negative balance protection policy (you never know when CHF happens again). It has become very difficult to get proper capital protection when Deutsche Bank, Citi Bank, RBS and Baclays left retail business. When you trade with 100.000 - 500.000 € you're too small to open trading account with investment bank and too big to be protected by british FSCS, swiss einlagensicherung or EU costumer protection sheme.

On the downside, leverage only upon request on >250.000 pounds account.
i believe that brokers that use metatrader are just pocket shop brokers what ever they offer

I think it is a good broker.

I could open an account there, It is one of the few that has positive swap for ALL pairs... Include metals.


And the spread is one of the lowest 0.7 -- 0.8.

For what I have seen a lot of brokers claim to be ECN but there are not in reality.

I have noticed that on GBPUSD, on the "real" ECN brokers the swap changed to positive territory on the short side after the rate hike from the Federal reserve, but most broker do no offer the real swap / rollover rate on GBPUSD.

I don't know if I should transfer my trading money to swiss Dukascopy after reading this. But they have russian owners, so they're not really swiss bank. What to do, what to do? Where are the times when even small retail trader was able to open trading account in reputable investment bank.

Yeah, and this is nearly FIVE years ago (!), which is like an eternity. It is not representative at all for nowadays conditions. It would be the same if they would have been awarded for best spreads/service/execution in 2011.

Only feedback, issues and penalties for the last one/two years should be accounted for the current situation.

Isn't the trader only covered for 50k.
