I've been using trendlines for trading forex, commodities and occasional CFDs for 7 years.
In my opinion trendlines (TLs) are the easiest and hardest indicators that you can use to trade technical setups in any market.
Why?
CONS:
Because TLs are elusive. They work on one timeframe and do not work on other. They "expire" aka they become obsolete in relation to price action.
You need a shitload of practice to figure out which TL is to be trusted, when to be traded, and for how long they are reliable.
They are very subjective. We can both stare at the same chart and each will draw TLs that trigger conflicting positions. (i might see a bearish opportunity while you are already on a long
)PROS:
TLs are the basic tools for defining a price structure. You can't go more rudimentary than TLs. If drawn correctly, they can give you an immense edge in the market.
They are not lagging. You draw for the future. TLs can be used in any market condition.
I will at some point put together a "how to" for trendlines, but for now I'll just point out why the bearish TL (the one going down ^^) from your chart looks weird in my eyes.
From my experience, a TL that is in play and valid will see the price action bouncing in a rhythmic fashion (like the bullish TL you have on your chart). You can clearly see that the price is rejected in a hit-hit-jump-hit-hit-jump-almost hit then away. This confirms that the big money are aware of the TL and they are placing long orders when the price approaches it.
The bearish TL on you chart had a hit-fall-hit(double but very close together)-fall and after that a VERY long time with no hit. This, in my book, invalidates a TL, it becomes obsolete and a new one emerges as active TL.
You might point out: "lol dude, but it was hit during that huge 3 day spike, so the TL is still in play and it's gonna send the E/U into hell".
You might be right! Maybe your chart is identical to the ones at Goldman Sachs and DeutscheBank and they're all waiting to push the red button.

That crap movement on GBP messed up with the euro too. It was all good and shinny above 1.14 and then buff... damn pound. I still fear the failure of the channel considering mondays daily candle (almost gravestone doji).
