I'm surprised at anyone holding longs after the early PA. The high reached in pre XO trading held throughout the first hour during an unusually narrow range for that hour......perhaps the Big Dogs distributing and getting short .....that FAILURE to break the early highs was IMO a clear signal to get out of longs Then there was a steady fall throughout the rest of the morning with no attempts to rally.

The early US Session was flat in ~30 pt range until the NYSE Open until the poor ISM data caused that great sell off....again bank some and sell the PBs

PS by anyone I mean any INTRA-DAY TRADER, which is what this thread is about!

no more dax-trades for me (xetra closed). solid outcome though moved sl hit with +-0 en masse. but that protected me. taking a break now.

Some thoughts going forward. To me, and I may well be wrong, the euro vs the dollar has narrowed into a fairly tight apex now on the Daily chart, which could mean that it will soon break to the upside. What this weakening dollar should result in is stronger equities. Looking at the Dow, I'd say that we are not going to break lower until we have climbed higher, perhaps back up to around the 17,000 mark. I still predict a massive collapse in the stock market, but it needs to break higher first. The same thing happened in 2008, the Dow hit the weekly 200sma in January 2008 exactly as it did on Aug 24th, then went sideways but on an upward trajectory for 5 months, stopping at the 61.8% retrace, after which it fell, and the rest is history. We could well repeat a similar scenario again.

Posted this monthly DOW MACD on my FB page a while back - doesn't exactly give a rosy picture for stocks does it, seems to be only one direction it's going to go!

Interesting and that prompted me to look at my Daily / Weekly Charts.....since October 2014 the Dow was ten months in a ~1350 pt range - viz price moved within an 8% range - only recently broken. That would make on hell of a distribution zone

In contrast, during the same period, Dax moved in a ~3,500 pt range - that's 37%!

A huge difference and probably why there is now such high activity in Dax in the US Session.

Interesting, but I'll stick to Intra-Day trading

Thanks.. My heart today felt like the VIX. When the market tanked and did not retreat or bounce back my heart's volatility numbers (VIX) spiked. Going to take a sleeping pill and sleep this one out till tomorrow and see what tomorrow brings us.
I have found that the DAX when it moves in one way or another has moves of around 2-3% and usually with I turn around. Also broke my own rule of not trading when US markets first open. Best to wait and let market first set its direction before coming in for a trade. The downside after the big move has been made is very low compared to when entering right after US market opens. Most of the move usually happens between 9:30 AM 12:00 PM New York time whether it be up or down.

I think we are due for a crash as well. Question though is when this crash hits us.. Perhaps wise to open some long SPY puts about a year out or so for options expirations.
