Suppose hedge funds go net longs and drive the market up, and so big banks have net shorts. At the end of month the banks want to square their book so they have to get out their net shorts (close them), the market goes up, not retrace. Hedge funds net longs drive the market up, and the squaring of banks net shorts also drive the market up. So double up.

What I look for in the charts:
Position Charts: Open/close trades
15 min consolidating
30 min consolidating

Trending Charts: Which direction to go - long or short
1 Hr Down trend
2 Hr Up trend
Daily Undefined - looks like it may be starting a down trend

Overview Charts:
Daily Undefined - looks like it may be starting a down trend
Wk Down trend but weak
Mn Up trend beginnings but not well defined

My strategy now is short trades because I see overall the trend is down, however there is some kind of transition going on. Will also go longs but use much caution. If I'm 15 pips in the green long I'll usually put in a zero stop so if it turns around I won't lose.

Yeah, I'm not so sure I care a great deal about trendlines. Oh sure, once in awhile there's one that's real obvious, with many touch points, that nearly everyone will agree on. You just glance at the various hi/lo points on a chart, and you can almost see the line before you draw it. But in my (still pretty newbie) opinion, those are rare. Most trend lines I see people draw on charts are almost arbitrary.... I guess kinda "eye of the beholder". So.... yeah, I rarely pay much attention to them (which I realize MAY be a mistake on my part).

I change settings of each window
so that autoscroll is unchecked
Next I review all my trades for the week
so if I move the cursor to 27 July 2013 9 pm all five windows move to the same time
This will be very good for analysis. This feature exists in Ninja Trader

Everyone I suppose has their own criteria for what determines a trend on a given chart. If it is consistent then the indicators being used are working for you. I determine trends base on crossovers mainly such as the linear regression the EMA along with some MA's. The RSI is a good confirmation tool as well as others. I don't do the butterfly and pitchfork stuff though they're are many the swear by them.

When I was in Mexico for three months, I relied mainly on just a couple indicators with my iPhone.

The idea is to see patterns which can be defined as trends. When I follow my own rules by this method I'm rarely not in the green. The fundamentals, in my view, are strictly there for the central banks to push the PA in a certain direction. That is where you can get screwed. It's the X-factor.
