Thanks. I personally work with local brokers only Don't wanna deal with intentional brokers if something bad happen. I was trying to ask if those platform available to other brokers, let say if my broker want it for its clients like they did with mt4. I will try both with demo to see differences.

That would imply I'd want another Lagarde or Yellen-ish person to rule the ecb, which is not the case.

Best place to start...download a couple of EAs and see if you can just walk your way around them...you can get a feel for the coding by just how these are put together.

Past that, I have a friend who threw together a little template and some ideas around how to work with MQL - HERE.

Once you have a base system, all you need to do is code in the trading logic...there's not much to that. With the vast amount of sources by way of open code you have and an idea of how to put a sentence together, you can throw something together for testing.

When you do start to work with coding and trade logic, by way of EAs, it will have a FANTASTIC impact on your own personal performance and Market Optics. Rather than looking at historical charts and thinking, if I could have entered here...you get to try and put that in to actual logic...when you can do this, it opens whole new worlds and perspectives...from time frames to the brick style, ticks and volumes...really very kewl shit.

And...if you have a look at the performance of the EAs I have posted...you can gain a sense of what is possible. Prior to working with MQL, last code I played with was on a TRS-80 and Apple IIe.

I don't know a lot...but what I have been able to accomplish by way of markets, logic and learning...incredible!

Here's the chart, still seems like a good position. I got stopped out because I'm a tight ass. So far this year, all things equal- I'll make ~2-3% on stop outs + BE

Slightly bearish close in the main swing but again intraday bulls keep holding the upper hand as long as 1.071x hold.

A copy / paste roll from yesterday but this time with hands in play for the risk leg. I hope our fellow trader "complaining" about surprises didn't get too surprise and learn something this time with roll around the same 1.073x that has been in play and call since Friday.

Nothing to see till Europe wakes up with the second and final round of soft news this week. Expecting a noisy tweet/gossip day from NY till the W roll...

surly, one can trade with both of them. But what bothers me is the fact, that both were designed to apply manipulative techniques by the brokers. I do not need that extra thrill.......

What annoys me much is the fact (I was able to track it down), that for example the MT4 of FXCM on several of my Notebooks slows the whole system down frequently, when things are heating up, like NFP or other major news.

First I notice, that suddenly the fans of my notebooks start up, then after a while either MT4 hangs or my whole computer system.

So in case of important news I shut the MT4 down and all stays well.

Originally it was about charting platforms but it opened the discussion to execution and automatic systems.

The point is that there is a huge room for a decent charting platform for traders made by traders knowledge (not brokers!!!) for traders using the proper up to date technology. My argument was that MT4/5 is a monopoly managed by brokers for brokers ,,,retail have enough things against them to be on top handicap by a poor charting platform....

Obviously if you are not a chartist, the charting part is irrelevant but again I would personally never use mt4 to clear my trades manual or in a system ...

To think that any software is running in it's most optimized state on original install is where most folk typically go wrong.

META4 is a pig and as soon as the average person get's their hands on it, it becomes even worse.

It's like this, Marcus...

Even without a single chart open, your terminal is watching ALL pairs that are available by your broker and charting each tick movement. In doing this, it can already tax a weak system, or really, systems that are a few years dated. This can be remedied or at least minimized by opening only the charts that you want to watch and then clicking the "Market Watch" icon, and hitting "Hide All". This will close down all connections to pairs and possibly instruments that you are not interested in. This in itself, and especially by way of trading during the news volume, makes a huge impact.

But even if you have a newer PC with Windows 7/8...do you know that the default install location is the WORST possible place this can be put? Because of the security settings in your OS, when this Monkey Fighter opens up, it causes all sorts of shit storms with your PC and Windows and Meta4 will battle it out as long as they both continue to operate.

Kinda like having 2 antivirus programs running...antivirus programs, for all intents and purposes, are just like viruses...so when you have 2 of them running, they both think that the other is an offensive creature that it was designed to eliminate...again, causing all sorts of shit storms!!

But...let's say, that you have now, installed Meta4 outside of the default location, a folder you created...and have shut down all the other pairs and instruments that you want to trade...what next?

Each indicator that you add to a chart will have a certain amount of calculations that it is performing...if you are working with custom indicators, some of these calculations occur on tick...what this does, is, take your optimized system and throws an exorbitant amount of weight on to it. Kinda like buying a Prius to save on fuel, to tow your 32 foot Caravan and Boat to go camping...defeatist!!

Finding out the offending indicators and eliminating them can have another huge impact on the overall performance.

After this...I know myself personally, would have multiple templates to watch multiple time-frames, but feel the need to have them all open at the same time...Again, because each indicator is calculating a new value, every chart and historical bar is now weighing down the system. Do you know that it takes one click of the mouse to change to a different chart, but only 2 to change to a different template? A third and you can have a different time-frame too...

EAs, well, these motherfuckers can also have an impact, but not as much as having a couple dozen trades open. Each trade that is current running, too, is calculating values with each tick and on multiple pairs with multiple charts...it's really a fucking nightmare!!

THEN, you get crazy motherfuckers like myself, who need to run between 7-10 terminals with up to 3 different brokers watching 14 pairs and having active trades in each of them...

Seriously...what do you expect?

I run a pretty optimized system but am always watching the loads...I run a VPS for some of my terminals on live to help eliminate some of my PC load...trade off of only 1-2 accounts live when I am on my netbook or laptop and reduce the amount of background apps that are running via Windows.

The average person has no idea how much weight having a spread sheet, a microsoft office doc and outlook open at the same time, is. Add to this, run a couple of browsers and have 20-30 tabs open and guess what? Even without Meta4 running, your PC is under some serious test.

IF you run the most optimized system and IF you optimize your chart set ups...there are still going to be issues. During big news, heavy market time...the lag in your trades can actually be the amount of liquidity that there is available by your broker. IF price is not available, you read it as lag...and that is a trade issue more than anything...buying market price. If you play a little in the stockmarkets, this is a lot more predominant and much the reason I limit myself in the stocks I pick...getting into a trade can be a fucking nightmare on a partial fill...but after this, if there is no way to exit it profitably, it's even worse...going of course off of broker commisions. As I am a canuck, the commish can eat a huge part of the trades, especially in smaller $1000-$5000 orders and depending on the broker, if you only partial fill...

YES, I believe and have seen the broker tricks by bucket shops...and I still believe there is a portion of this that does occur...but I can't say that it isn't present with any other system as would be to Meta4...and I can't actually say that it is present on all brokers.

Dude, with as long as we have been around an as many folk as we have seen blow up an account...you have to know that, if they were given a lightning bolt connection with a laser beam trade execution and zero spread...this would most likely make no impact on their length of time in market.

A) Have now eliminated (hide) all pairs not used (LOL: all where shown); plus: have closed some charts which I do not really need. Will watch what will happen in hot times.By looking at the CPU or RAM now, nothing much has changed so far. Have also eliminated some indicators on the charts which I do not really use anymore. So with all what I did now the system should be working around 50% less, I guess.

B) All my Notebooks are running with Windows 7 prof., all have between 10 and 32 GB of RAM, all have newer Intel i7 processors, all have super fast SSD's

C) recently I have installed a RAM disk, on which all my charting programs run, plus my fairly huge Excel spreadsheets. This might be a good idea for all people who use SSD's, because running this programs in the RAM should reduce the wear of the SSD's significantly

D) installing the MT4 in the standard directory is really a pain and should be avoided. Install it somewhere else. But before you start MT4 then, make sure, that you start is with the parameter "/portable". If you don't do this, MT4 will again write a lot of files into your user directory

E) when at home I try to avoid to open up a browser or other things on the Notebook which I use for trading. In this case, I have only open the charting platform and Excel. But when one looks into the running processes on the computer, one can only scratch the head and ask why all this things are running silently LOL

When traveling, well, that is a different game. Then there are some more things running.


F) that is true: who does not manage to reap some rewards by trading with MT4/5, will certainly do not get the edge by switching to the best of all platforms
