New Trading Simulator, Gain Experience Faster
Here is a great tool to help you get experince faster, by trading on a simulated market. You can enter and exit trades like you would in a real market, so it gives you a more realistic feeling.
You can speed it up, and slow it down as well. I have been able to practice trade a month in about 1 hour using this tool.
The system runs in MetaTrader 4
When learning to trade, there's no substitute for experience. A trader who has spent many months trading a live market will have a feel for the market that is almost impossible to explain.
They will see the pitfalls in some stuations by just recognising similar price action. If you have this experience, you will know exactly what I'm talking about, if you don't have it yet, you wont.
A live market is very different from looking back through charts or backtesting. When you backtest, you can see the bars that are coming, and there is no real stress involved. It's easy to see what signals would have worked, and which ones did not. When it comes to trading for real, you can't see what's coming, and that is a very different dynamic indeed.
Using this tool, you can trade a few months in only a few hours and then easily print out the results, and see how you well you did. You can also make mistakes and recognise them in a safe situation.
Granted it's not as real as using live money but its 10 times more realistic than backtesting. If you treat it as a challenge, it actually creates a pretty realistic view of how well you could potentially do with any system or method.
I personally think it's the second best learning aid there is. Number 1 is live trading but that can be expensive!
NOTE: Please Vote/Vouch for this thread so it can be taken out of the under evaluation thred. Thanks!

i was looking at forextester, but i'll look into this as well. But nothing is better than forward testing though..there's no substitute

I have not loaded or looked at Vhands, if I had known about it, I would not have spent the hours it took me to write this thing. Now I have, I'm kind of committed to it.
I guess it cant hurt to have another version.

I agree which is why I put "I personally think it's the second best learning aid there is. Number 1 is live trading but that can be expensive!" at the end of my post

I don't see a problem with it either, Quantem. Your pdf file is written more clearly. The original was in somewhat fractured english so was a bit difficult to make sense of.

ok, i'm not sure what i'm doing wrong..but i'm not getting anything
I saved a template
I loaded the expert
set the visual on, picked the market, picked two dates, What shoul I put for the skp date? the last? same as my last date of testing??
when i clicked start, the checked visual is not checked anymore. After it finished loading (1min, 5min etc.) nothing happens.
All i see is a chart that shows all teh way to the present...and i want up to end of 2007
sigh

OK this is tough without seeing your screen, I'll do my best...
The skip date is only used if you want to jump forwards in time. It's great to skip over holidays like Christmas etc. So you dont need to press 'Skip to' in normal use. If you are using 2 dates (From & To), make sure the from date is before the to date. I have made this mistake before by forgetting to change the year.
Make sure that Optimization is NOT checked.
If this does not fix it let me know, and try to include a screenshot and some more information
ADDITIONAL: I just duplicated this error and it happens when Optimization is checked, make sure it's off.

cool it works! thanks quantem.
But one more question. I think the ONLY limitation is that it i can't see other timeframes while i'm doing this test. You're just stuck witht the timeframe you pick.
Since my strategy involves looking at weekly chart for a trend, i can't see what the weekly is doing while i'm in the test. Forextester eliminate that problem.
I was wondering if it's possible to program that.

Yes and No.
Because of the limitations of only loading one chart at a time in strategy tester, you have to use a workaround.
There are a couple of options to this:
1. Just have the other timeframes open on a normal chart. So you can't see the bars coming (to keep it real), you can press F12, which exposes 1 bar at a time on your normal charts. Now you will have to be careful not to expose bars that give the direction away. This will work if you load the higher timeframes on standard charts.
To show the simulator chart, and the other charts, click on restore down, in the top right hand corner.
The system I trade is purely on price action, so I look at the 1 day 4 h and 1 hour for entry. I load the 1 hour in the simulator and load the other 2 in the standard charts which I step forwards using the F12 key.
Another thing I do is keep Forex factory open as well and follow the news items that are coming up at that time and date. Forex Factory is awsome for this as it goes back a year or more.
Change the date on the Calendar in the top left corner:
Time permitting, I want to add the news items into the simulator, so it pops up on the chart when news would have been coming up (in the past). But it's almost better just keeping FF open. Also the file would get really big so I'm not sure about this feature.
2. Another options (which I have not tried) is to install more versions of MT4 which you can do if you change the destination folder names durin the intallation process. See if you can get the timing right with the speed. LOL this could get crazy though. Let me know if anyone tries this.

Hi, there
Works great, but is there a trailing stop option in a new buy or sell script?
Or how can I manage to insert it? If you can post the .mq4 file I will modify it myself, cause for the .ex4 I don't have the programming tool.
Thank's
