Usd/Jpy is forming a symmetrical triangle on the daily chart and a wedge range pattern on H4 chart. If price break out of the wedge to the upside, we have the downward slope line as resistance seen on the daily chart. If that breaks, IMO we could see further upside testing the highs at 121.84.

UJ seems become steady around 119.50, Yen remain to be weak while market is focusing on testimony by Yellen due later.

"While our forecast is mixed relative to consensus, we expect Chair Yellen to reiterate constructive views on the US economy in her testimony and likely be USD supportive," Barclays projects.

and then there's this from Goldman Sachs...

"In terms of levels, the 21-dma has been a reliable pivot in recent months and is now acting as support at 118.43. The bigger pivot above should be the highs from Dec. 23rd/Jan. 2 nd up at 120.75-120.82," GS adds.
Moreover, GS notes that USD/JPY could soon draw some support from Japanese equities.
"It seems as though the Nikkei is once again developing momentum ahead of USDJPY. It will be interesting therefore to watch whether this develops any further, eventually enough to support the rise in USDJPY," GS argues.

I am comfortable with the USDJPY heading higher from here.

I agree with you, UJ had bounced-off from 118.90 and steady around 119.50 at the moment.

Appears to me that the new hardpan (bottom) will settle into the 119.10-20 range. I'll be looking for longs in this area. (I think!)

Not really. yellen wasn't that hawksih towards the dollar; more people are leaning towards dovish, as the price movements indicated. Also, Yellen is famous for being more towards vague/dovish rather than hawkish for the dollar.

My strongly recommend that you NEVER trade what the private banks & financial firms say on public media for intraday events.

At the best, do as they do, not as they say (this is not a typo).

Everytime one of the major banks make an announcement, expect 40-50% of them to get it wrong. You're just better off trading on your own.
