Do you mind if I ask more questions about your job? I'm currently pondering over what professions I might have in the future post-university. A sales trader basically facilitates the financial investments of clients by providing information and news that might help them succeed, right? Can you tell me what sort of information they provide specifically, and how they can compile all the useful data in a timely manner?

Also, to be a client at an investment bank (for the sake of simplicity, let's say yours), how much do you need at minimum?

what a sales trader does is to provide clients with market update, if im an FX sales trader, G7 coverage, i would update clients who call up, or i call them up myself (especially if i need to start racking up revenue to meet my sales target) i need to give market colours,
say whats been the news, whats going on with the G7 currencies, etc etc.
also discus with our in house research team to provide clients with our inhouse views on what position to take.

as a sales trader we we have multiple team with multiple target segmnt, it could be Local large Corprs, Commercial Banking, Multinationals, hedge funds.

say if i work for multinationals, my portfolio of clients would be like Siemens, Prada, McDonalds, Kraft Foods, Etc etc, and i basically need to understand what their needs would be, in order to proactively talk to them about any trade idea or strategic idea to hedge their firm's risk.
multinationals would do much more cross border activities accounting and book squaring purposes. like McDonalds, their profits are audited in USD, so at the end of each month we do get flow orders from McDonalds to try to convert the profits they made in Japan in YEN, back to USD.
sometimes if they think a currency is going to fall and that the fall of that currency may effect their profit, they may also choose to execute a forward option with us.
etc etc.
i hope this gives you an idea what sales trader does.

Investment Banks focuses on Corporates, its very very very rare that there is any individual dealing through ibank... usually HNW or UHNW individuals deal thorough private bank.
because Investment banks deals with Incorporated Firms, Listed Firms, and Corporations...

PS. as a sales trader, there are annoying sides to this job, you are constantly being threatened by the client saying its my mistake they are losing money (when the fact is they chose to execute that trade.... all i did was to give our company's advise, the same advise we give to our clients)
and also clients calling us up almost any time some of our clients go nuts when they saw a 20 pip move and there was no news backing it up, all i can tell them is the infamous phrase "Other Banks maybe filling an order" or better yet, "no body knows"
imagine the calls i get during FOMC...

job is stressful.
requirement to work in the field.
well analyst level sales trader needs atleast 1-2 years prior experience in global banking and markets.
without a doubt, knowlege in Equity, equity derives, FX, Rates, fixed income.
financial studies background is a must.

Tyrant, so basically you are just trading forex? or all kind of market as well? Commodities, stock, option etc
Read the entire market, money is made on the main trend not the fluctuation

im a corp sales/ sales trader role

equity linked products/equity derivs
fixed income, and FX (spot, and forwards)
slowly picking up FX derives too.

I mean you yourself. Due to your job background you seems to know alot beside just Forex. So I am wondering do you trade other markets as well because you seems to lingers here quite often

Anyone who thinks EU is turning bullish is obviously delusional. I have been bearish on EU since it was at 1.37 - 1.4 range and am still super bearish till at least 1.0 or less is hit. However in the short term it is okay to lay off and wait for higher prices. Agree though, lower low is ridiculously higher % than higher high. We've made new lows over and over again and there's really no reason to think that's done yet.

i dont really trade other markets, but very often i look at other markets behaviour to help my analysis on FX.
