close to 40 pip spread by oanda on GBP Prelim GDP. I'm not trading that pair anymore!

recent SNB crap has ruined the way brokers act... they now shave us slowly. I'm keeping an eye on that.

So far my All SL respected in that broker no slippage can you tell me your specific experience and what type of account you used to trade the news.?

I trade on news event and they give me at one time on USDCAD pair 20 pips lower price that come from nowhere. It can be very bad if you have a spike and broker give you a price that are 20 pips different from real price.......I also contact the regulation so we will see what will be the end in this case...Yes at the begin all was good and than after some good trades they will blow your account...

Ginger is right, in my case I never used iron, but if other brokers with fixed spread. They work well for a while and because they are market makers to ensure your counterpart. In the real market there are no fixed spreads. If you play against the broker, the broker does not like to win continuously.
Then everything changes and become exaggerated slippages to recover "their money". I have it checked, always work well at first until they no longer seem a good customer.

Well, not bad so far. On NFP i was stopped out at breakeven. On AUD employment change i made +15% gain. Execution was great: slippage only 2 pips. Have not traded other news this month. Reaction to GBP employment announcement was good this time, but it was due to MPC Votes change. MPC Votes changes are rare and claimant count change alone usually can not create big spikes. Perhaps the reason for relatively small volatility is late release of these news (second half of the month for GBP), and the same can be said about NZD employment change.

I think the reason for this is Bank of Canada's interest rate cut on 21th january. I checked Recent Oanda Spreads and it seems all CAD pairs were affected by the interest rate change. Maximum spread (i.e. spread during news release) on gbp/cad was fixed to 20 pips before 21th january and now it is fixed to 50 pips. Max spread on usd/cad was fixed to 20 pips before and now it is fixed to 30 pips. And similar changes for other CAD pairs. Max spreads on all pairs except for CHF and CAD pairs are same as before the SNB decision and in the case of CAD max spread was also unchanged several days after SNB before the rate cut.
