seems when he asked that the trend was just starting. trend is still going now 4 months later across the majors. the market has answered favourably.....this time.....muhahahahaaaaaa

Which trend was starting as there was none mentioned in his post, or any reference to any starting to trend; I don't understand your post.

Trend following isn't throwing couple of moving averages and finding an entry. It is more than that!

It is knowing what markets you are trading.

It is knowing how much you will risk each trade.

It is knowing when you will exit when you're WRONG.

It is knowing when you will exit when you're RIGHT.

It is mastering your emotions when you see trades go 1 to 5 risk reward only to stopped you out for a loss.

It is not taking profits prematurely but letting it run.

If you ask me, trend following is a mindset.

To be a consistently profitable trader you need not just 1 or 2 ingredients, but all of it.

Rome isn't built in a day, it takes time and hard work.

But if you're determined enough and follow through these principles, you will make it.

i was new to trend trading last summer. so i guess i just thought since the reversal in the majors that happened around that time is still going on until today, that others also had 'easy pickings' like i experienced (albeit on demo)

back in august i began selling eu/gu/au on one combined basket chart and buying uf/uc/uj also on a combined basket chart. looking at the monthly and weekly of these basket charts it happened to be a good time to be trend trading the majors. although, now i am also waiting for the inevitable reversal and a change in bias which for me has not changed since the summer

will also add that i watch the monthly/weekly/etc of each of the individual basket pairs in combination with the basket charts. i also trade them individually intraday but for trend trading i've just been trading the two baskets. it makes things simple and i can scale in by using multiple instances of the basket ea. i place trades on the m30 and if it moves in the intended direction i move the ea up a time frame and open another ea on m30 and so on until i've scaled in on up to four time frames

i like having all aspects of each position contained on its own time frame using the basket ea. also it keeps the charts clear of the bright green and red lines since offline basket charts only have a faint white line to represent current price and no other lines when positions are opened. plus stop loss lines are contained on its own time frame along with balance and other information. it's quite elegant i hope to continue trading like this

I might be wrong but seems like in the video that you enter a trade, position size unknown, and then you set a Stop Loss ??

The correct way is to define the Stop Loss first and use it to calculate Position Size according to Risk

I think you may have another video on that.

Yes, i understand where you're coming from. That video was meant to illustrate how i choose my stoploss level.

After i know how many pips is my stoploss based on the ATR, then i go about managing my position size.

Absolutely!! If the mindset isn't there, a person can have the greatest strategy known to man and still mess it up. In trading, the biggest enemy you have is yourself.

One more question I want to ask that why we are not using SMA instead of EMA? I heard about 20 SMA and 50 SMA.
