It's possible, before price can rise to highers there must be strength established, or at the very least a strong indication that the weakness is beginning to subside. Don't see that just yet according to volume spread analysis. It will likely migrate lower, end with a large climax down, go sideways (consolidation area), then finally head up definitively.

simple.. where was the usd pre 911 before. where was it heading before then, chart indicated. and since then what has fundamentally changed? the last few years that weakened the usd over the last 40. partly responsible for taking the usd off the gold standard in the 1970s. shit happens, markets evolve. less need for cheaper labor when energy is the most costly ingredient in heavy manufacturing. companies build where its cheaper to build, business 101

I'm much less familiar with yen .. but I believe ya. I quickly closed a cable long before the whole shake..

GBP has been hammered a lot. The hawks must be happy with today.

it's worth getting to know USD YEN EUR even if you only trade a single pair, it provides greater understanding to what is going on...

There's an obvious divergence in the paths of the Fed and the ECB. Fed is moving toward tightening the USD supply while ECB is loosening (increasing) the supply of euros. This divergence has been developing all year but became obvious after Jackson Hole, right before Labor Day. It was only briefly mentioned in the press, but it doesn't matter anyway because everybody knows that the CB heads get together over cigars & putas at some swank mountain lodge at Jackson Hole every year to iron out the details of how the currency "wars" will play out for the coming months/years.

For the ECB to do full-blown QE is a really politically difficult proposition in the Eurozone. However, they can move along the same path by weakening the euro, and that's a lot easier to do. A stronger USD will not weigh on the growing US economy that much & will probably help the Fed pull back on how much it needs to raise rates - any rising rate trend needs to be clamped down because the USA is a debtor nation and those rate hikes are like salt in the oozing wounds of her Treasury.

The Central Banks are the back line players in this chess game: kings, queens, bishops, etc - all others are just pawns. Anyway, I've been short fiber since $1.32+, right before Jackson Hole, and I'm looking for a steady decline in the months ahead. $1.2750 will break and $1.25 is on the table for this year, with as low as $1.20 for the first half of 2015...
