As I said before, simply look at the 24 hour trend prior to high impact news. I would take a stab in the dark and say the 24 hour trend is reversed when high impact news is released over 98% of the times.
Although it is a "gamble" as you mentioned, isn't the reality that once you wager any amount of funds you are gambling? Taking a position prior to high impact news is unordodox, but with maybe 6 months of charting history you would be able to confirm what was mentioned above (about the 24 hour trend changing once high impact news is released)
Prime example...... Mario draghi's speech more then a month ago which caused the major dump of eur/usd.... Have a look at the 24 hour trend using say the 15 m chart. Wasn't EU increasing?
