Ahh Martingale, brings back memories and a tear to the eye. I remember it was summer 09 (Aus) late November and I decided I knew enough about this trading game so I opened a live 1K account to test the waters. PA had been up for 40 odd weeks and my demo and micro accounts had been doing fine with the no SL orders I was using. About the 3rd trade in and PA started to move down. It played with my order for a few days (even reaching B.E.) but then, candle after candle it went lower and lower.... well the rest is history.

Imo the only way a martingale could work long term is if you regularly withdraw funds from your account or have a mega account size to start with. There is a black swan lurking in every shadow, beware the bite .

I think there are a couple of things to consider, only looking at the last 2 weeks and it really boils down to the sessions.

Start of the Week, TK was selling off, while London brought it to topside last week.

TK bough back the range that they sold off, so that London/US Could clear the books and sell on the same range.

The only thing left is to retrace back to the previously resisted range and close test this area for support.

The books are closed above current...they really don't need to ever come back to this area.

Howz the battlefield boys?

The last movement of significance here was a reversal so powerful its left a window - open
Northern doji star sets resistance @1.3866
Support @1.38050 looks set to fail.

The reversal pattern sets a lower high and I think the next few weeks will be interesting to see if we are seeing the trend reverse or not, in the short term sellers are in control but will they break support soon?, I think so

No clear technical pattern and indecision seems to rule, it would seem any positions open before the range breaks would tend to be low probability for the position and longer term traders.

Through the use of a select Trigger on Grid Martingale style automated trading, I have had several members of a trade group double their accounts.

Some of these are in the Hundreds, a couple have started in the low thousands and as high as 10k.

Real Money.

Most I have seen with the software we work with, is a 3 fold on $10k gains in a 1 year period.

Most people don't have a solid enough plan to trade, never mind compound the size of losses by adding to the misery.

Just because you couldn't do it, doesn't mean it cannot be done.

I again, bring forth a single account. With a $300 start that adds positions based on a trigger. The lot size start is .01 and moves up.

Look at it and tell me that it cannot be done.

Ironically, it trades on 3 AUD crosses...

ok, do you have a hard stop when the position size and loss grow to very large compared to your account size? what do you do when price retraces to your BE point? do you reduce position size or keep it running the same position size?

martingale at 1.5x for each position adding leads to position size grow exponentially. It is quite different from fixed position size adding which grow position size linearly.

Yes and I forgot to mention hedging too. I have no doubt with an exact strategy as with almost any out there is could be profitable. I could see how AU and EA could be possibly used in a strategy. It was more of a general statement for us mere mortals. Anyone who knows the exact science and isn't afraid of blowing a few accounts to learn it probably ins't bothered to take heed of my newb ramblings anyway (that's slightly slurred with fridays night bottle of red) .

martingale simply does not work. when black swan event comes just wait for account to be wiped out. Two years ago I did linear adding with moderate size adding, my 3x gain made in 6 months got wiped out in a week. Now I only use small size adding, and stop adding when position size reach certain limit.

I employ a few different profit strategies all based on the triggering logic of the EA and all based on ranges created on an M1 time frame and some filtered through the longer timeframes.

Trigger on Exit - forces a profit greater than zero, but will exit on a counter trigger.
Static Profit - will add positions until a static profit point is reached.
True Trigger Dynamics - will exit on a counter trigger whether the trade is in profit or not.

Working with Market ranges and various Oscillators we know that peaks and valleys range by the trend. When the trend changes, these adjust to the other side. Allowing something to trade universally, long when it sees long, short when it sees short adding positions until it sees a counter allows for typically more wins than losses.

During exceptional market movements, there will still be long and short signals...they just don't always allow exits in prosperity.

Taking a static loss is guessing the market as much as your dogshit idea of adding at a static generic number.

you still did not answer what you do when position grow very large and what you do when price get to BE point. and furthermore, what if price does not go to your BE?

Depends on the logic being used.

I've explained this.

Some will take a loss, some will wait for an exit based on an above zero close and counter trigger, while others close on a static position.

Read what I wrote instead of just frantically hitting your keyboard.

If you want information, at least gain a sense of appreciation for when it is provided.

I am a big fan of modified "Martingale"
Trick is your SL should be predetermined in $$ not pips
Example $500 to short NU at 87
Fundamentally we know its historical high since 2011 so we short aggressively with confidence
$500 with .50 lot gives you 1000pips
Take 1000pips and add to your "losing" position as you see fit but try using bigger lot on higher up!
Martigale part is using your best lots on top smallest at bottom.
If your smallest happened to be top then you add more to winning position by moving SL from winning position to BE thus you have another .50lot to invest.
Jessy Livermore did compound this way.

I did exact thing twice on recent NU shorts up 14% in April up 40% since Jan
What pisses me off when idiots tell me "you can't add to losing position" without understanding broader context how I trade
Mentality is coming from so called trading books and so called trading coaches who keep saying "don't add to losers" or "Losers average losers"
This is BS knowing how price moves almost 90% of times those "losers" are profitable trades.
Fact is 70% forex is in a range.By trading pairs that often go in a range is key to my strategy.I don't trade any Yen pairs period no exceptions.
