Look for short carefully at 1.3725/30, no stops as usual.
They think they are smarter than I am.

Buy side would be hedge funds, PE funds, mutual funds, wealth management, etc.

I shorted at 21 but this strength is a bit tricky. surely it cannot go back to 50 after hitting 1.3685 and coming close to first support at 1.3680. I suspect jpy selling is happening and this is cross buying led effect

Sell Side- Citi, UBS, Barclays etc.- Investment Bank Traders that execute orders for buyside clients. Most money is made (if any), is on facilitating client orders, makng the bid/ask spread. Running stop loss orders, fixiing fixes. Obviously the majority of the techniques these guys made money with is now under massive investigation by regulators.

Buy Side- Pension Funds, Hedge Funds, Corporates- Investors or hedgers that have a need to make FX transactions due to investment, hedging or speculative purposes.

Honestly, If you make good money as a retail trader I dont know why anyone would want to be a sell side fx trader. The business model is dying, traders are being fired by the bunch, there not much speculation allowed anymore and the access to information is so wide at this point that the edge of sell side traders isnt even that substantial anymore. The coolest thing about it is probably just seeing your trades move the market, thats about it.

I can think maybe of about 1,000,000 reasons lol

*most* go on the sell side to get epxerience so that they can then move to the buy side when they are older, at which point there could be 10,000,000 reasons as to why

*but* only if you are good can you do this... but if you are very good, then you will always make more money being a pro. simple as!

I would also agree with the above. That link JWS posted is from 2000... You could probably get by pre 2008 with less TA. These days however a ton of buying is based on technicals. In my experience, Even corporates knew where to place orders based on the current support and resistance outlook. Hedge funds have models that are based on momentum, moving averages etc. Algos use MAs to determine speed of orders. That kind of stuff can be seen on charts. In 2013 youd be unwise not to focus your trading triggers around a technical strategy.

Ascending trend line holding off buys at 3726..dynamic 55 holding off sell side at .3694...may consolidate til Philly fed. A move beyond one of these points adds wait to my next action. Leaning toward holding my sell. The suprise is in a GOOD number. As expected or worse is not so much so of a move.
