That is a image of Metastock and early Metatrader. Side by SIde. I am saying this metatrader based the EARLY designs off its products down 2 the same Icons as Metastock , Why Let me show you http://www.metastock.com/company/press/awards.aspx Metrader has made some changes That make it a way better programming language than the original. I work with both products

What do you think their motivation for doing this is? Considering
a) it's not a virus
b) a couple of AV vendors are reporting false positives and not fixing them?

How is above use of png in their own program heirarchy being malicious exactly?

software providers should not disguise/hide file types it is wrong on so many levels and is normally the behavior of hackers etc not suppliers. They shouldn't have anything to hide so should not need to do it....

True. I wonder if it was being overly pragmatic to get past AV without considering user perception,
or if it was being deliberately malicious to make it difficult for users to prevent updates.

Hanlon's razor perhaps?

Short answer would be: because "their own program" is running on MY computer ...


Let me quote myself:

"You will only be able to do this (as a non-user) by using the old version MT4-terminal.exe
to rename a file on YOUR computer and extract "some" new files(and copy them to their new

This means,they also "sneaked" around the security settings of Microsoft Windows by using
the OLD version 509 (which at that time was still running in the background) to do all
of this.

You (the user/owner/administrator of your computer) did give (at some time/point) permission
to the "old" version 509 to run on your system (that is what I mean with "we trusted in").
Only because of this permission they were able to do it that way...

In my book,that is not acceptable (you may call it malicious).

It is not my task to sort out WHY they did it (as you hinted,they might be excused by being
"stupid"). It is concerning THAT they did it (and of course,how).

And by the way,the result (on my side) would be the same,stupid or not...

Another point would be,that I feel not very comfortable knowing that a program I run for
hours during the day (while being connected to the internet!) is deliberately avoiding
my anti-virus guard.

Please tell me,if I am completely off here,feeling that my trust has been exploited.

Perhaps they've been reading these posts
but definitely agree its quite underhand

why are they so keen for us to change anyway when the majority don't need or wont even use the so called improvements and most would struggle to see any change let alone significant changes
(except for all their indicators now have tons of errors or completely stop working)

They could of let the change be gradual and let everyone test and change and fix whatever was required before finally upgrading

i've found a program although not sure if it works properly yet Robobasket (great name)
but it deletes the install files and terminal etc or whatever you wish, in 5 minute intervals and also when you turn on MT4, to delete the new install file

there is also Autodelete but could nt get it to work very well, although is supposed to be quite good and free
Robobasket is $20 i think (after 14days trial) - but if it does stop the updates then is worth it

something along these lines may work - although not sure this is the best solution yet

just add the files below to be deleted etc,
ive not been updated again yet while its been running but maybe just a coincidence of having no more updates so far this wk

in advanced settings set to automatically process files every 5mins
autodelete can possibly do it every 1minute, but the program isn't so easy to set up

I think that the main purpose of this update is to force their customers to use it ... while nobody (serious brokers included) wanted to go with MT5.

So they can now earn on the sales made through their market ...

Guys - thanks for earlier BTW.

My fix - download a vanilla MT509, copy the terminal.exe, lang.exe, editor.exe over 609

Try it...looks ok

Exactly.
MT4 succeeded by developer support. MT5 died because of the lack of it.
Just Say No to Metaquotes and let them die the death they so richly deserve.

Give up on MT5 ? no chance . . . MT4.5 is simply a stepping stone to help get you onto MT5

beside EA, MT4 is a good "charting" platform. I don't mind using it as a standalone program for quick charting. Traders from india is even using it to chart stocks with an external data source utility.

I bet MQ will be piss if someone manage to use 509, load offline data & continue using it as it is but trade using another platform or 600 & above.

offline charting on 509 won't load HST downloaded from 600++ due to change in format but u can load hst form 509 on 600++ .So perhaps an external data source or utility to make it work. Maybe folks from Ctrader can provide a source into 509 & we all be happier changing platform & eventually move to ctrader full time. Is a win win.

Kind to think of it, MQ could have just merge the backward compatibility of all 509 & allow for proper transition for users. But instead they chose to piss the hell lot of us.

MQ is treating traders like kids! Time to fight back & piss them back.!
