Marty,
I now trade only Genesis with one info indicator of my own with nothing exotic, therefore until Genesis changes, the compiled code will continue to work. No problems here.

Marty,

I downloaded and installed the latest (build 604), as well. I figured I better do it on my terms while I had the weekend to get everything up and running. I had to make some modifications in order to get certain indicators to compile, but they all seem to be up and running now. Variables with '.' in their names seemed to be the most common issue. Hopefully there won't need to be so many impactful changes going forward. Best of luck to you!

Bluewatercat,

Yes I felt exactly the same, I like to be in control, and know come Monday morning, everything works.

Yes the "." to "_" is the most common problem, easily done, but some other object drawing indies, and "dll" call indies, were a little more problematic.

All the Genesis indies were reasonably easy to migrate.

Best of luck to you too.

Good luck!

I reverted back to build 509 on Friday after 3 out of 4 market orders on a live account with build 603 did not go through. They timed out after about 1 minute. Others have reported similar problems.

Xaphod,

Order processing was supposed to be improved! Quoting from their notes:

Terminal: Changed the algorithm of placing trade requests. In previous builds, an additional network connection has been created when placing trade requests. This connection has remained active for some time after a last trade request was sent in order to provide fast sending of a large number of trade requests.

Now, when placing trade requests, all of them are passed via the main connection with the trade server. Thus, the time of processing the trade requests (especially the first one) has been considerably reduced as there is no need to wait for connection to the trade server being established any more. In order for the new request sending algorithm to be operable, the trade server should also be updated - requests are still set in a separate connection on older trade servers.

Due to transition to the new model of requests processing, the ability to cancel the trade requests not yet accepted by the server (Cancel button in the trade request status dialog) has been disabled.

I no longer use MetaTrader for orders for several reasons, including platform issues. Let me just say watching the price from an ECN broker along side a typical retail broker has been eye-opening.

I hope that the issues smooth out quickly. Which broker do you use, if you don't mind me asking?

Hi everyone.... I'm still floating around...I haven't gone anywhere, I'm just concentrating on my own trading much more this year...I think I might have mentioned that before. As long as the thread stays (more or less) in order then it's all good.

For me the indicators all look ok, but I'm not really going to know that everything's working properly (trade management EA etc) until I've done some demo trades ... fingers crossed!

I generally don't trade Frankie, as you know, but I couldn't resist this one. I was aiming for the DP, and it might get there, but I took the +34 on the hesitation of the PA, because this is Frankie....and we know what that can mean!

Same trade, but off the M5 signal ... BUT, story of my life, on demo, so that I could test that everything worked. And of course, it has.

But Murphy's law, if I'd done it on real, something wouldn't have worked.

Ah wells.

It's good to be cautious, given the complexity of the MT4 upgrade.

I took a reduced lot size so that it wouldn't hurt too much if it all turned to custard!! SL was only 10 pips so it wouldn't have been an earth shattering loss if the trade, or platform had have snookered me!

Hello everybody, I have been on the sidelines for a while, but I’ve been trying Genesis on H4 for the last month and there are some points I’d like to share with you all…
Trying to use the standard Genesis 5-15 on H4-D I’ve come across some interesting things:

1. Obviously due to the huge SL required I had to drastically reduce the position size
2. I had the (wrong) idea that H4 was extremely slow, I would have to wait for ages to get a valid signal and in the end it wouldn’t be profitable unless you had a very good amount of money to start with.
3. Trailing and TP has always been an issue for me, due to the nature of H4, what to do now with H4 candles that fly through RNs? what to do at pivot points? How can I assess if I have “room” for a trade since RNs seem so “close” in H4?

What I’ve found:

1. Reducing the position size to the absolute minimum allowed me to open trades in different pairs and sometimes if I’m caught on the wrong side on one pair that position can be balanced with profits from other pairs. Not exactly basket trading, but some sort of. Another interesting thing is that obviously the spread in money terms becomes quite irrelevant.
2. Due to lotsize and ample SL used I can check the charts two or three times a day without the fear of finding a massive bleeding of the account. Small positions, small losses… (Small profit? Not sure). Quite ok sailing through non extremely important news, too, and more driven by fundamentals.
I have the matrix indi with immediate alert, not the default alert on bar close, this way the alert is not a proper trigger, but more of a “kind advice” that I will assess whenever I have the opportunity to have a look at the charts in the next 4 hours. If I get several Daily matrix alerts that could indicate trend weakness too.
3. This part has been tricky. “Moving to BE too soon is a sign of a nervous trader” (thanks kosmo), but I have to protect my profit… To work around the problem I tried this, borrowed from Nanningbob:

Signal.
Matrix + stoch will give a signal letting you know a potential trade set up is happening (kind advice). When this happens, you can then look at the chart and decide whether or not to take the trade, the important thing here is that there is time to assess the situation, for instance if price is behind the DP I will set a pending order after de pivot, if not I could take the trade immediately or set a pending order at the next RN or after an evident S/D area.
I don’t usually wait for the candle to close (we’re in H4!)

Take Profit
To protect profits what works best (for me, also borrowed from Nanningbob) is to use standard TP just before the next RN and a series of pending orders immediately after the RN. This way, without moving the SL, I can give the trade enough room to move banking profits at the same time and follow the whole move (since I use minimum lotsize I cannot take partial profits, and the spread influence per trade is minimal). One of the orders will probably be triggered and become a loser, well I will have banked a few of them by that time and will have time to close it manually if the matrix shows signs of exhaustion.

It’s very early days yet but the results have been very, very promising, hit ratio of over 70% and 19.86% gain in two weeks. Those 40 - 45 pips orders really stack on top of each other!
(Yes, considering the SL, the RR per trade is horrible, but once you have taken the profit who cares where was the SL?)

Sorry for the long post. I'm not sure it's completely Genesis, I had to tweak a bit the exit strategy and timing in order to make it fit in my daily schedule, any thoughts are welcomed.
Good judgement comes from experience, experience comes from poor judgement

That's a very interesting post...thanks. Please keep everyone up to speed on how you're going.

Wiz3003. Kosmo, Stevepatt and myself spent some time looking at the H4 charts trying to figure a good way to trade that TF, but we never really came up with anything solid. Good to see someone else having a go...well done
