Most people who use MT4 are traders, not programmers. They don't want to have to wade through pages of docuemtation on MetaQuotes' forum, to find answers to technical questions. Any half-decent software package should upgrade itself seamlessly, and to whatever extent questions like this are being asked on forex forums, it demonstrates that MetaQuotes have failed to deliver on that front.

Its not a question of working,its a question of doing things properly and maximizing the security of your machine.

The program files directory is for executables, not data that changes. In order to take full advantage of the new MS securrity model, there should be a strict separation of code and data, but MetaQuotes didn't get the memo and still do things as if it were 1995. But better to put executables in the data area than vice versa.

It seems a big problem to me. The file system is out of order. when I was writing script, I upgrated to Version 6.00. FileOpen(...) , FileOpenHistory(...)can not work correctly.

I find it. New version change the fold for data storing. I'd like to leave more space for disk C:, this time, my my disk C: contains too much.

Hi Guys, 1st always sorry for my bad English

If you follow my explanation in platform tech sub forum about zip or rar file of your entirely MT4 build 509 platform folder; then you can try this step if you already 'forced' by your broker to update to MT4 build 600;

WHEN YOU DO ALL THIS, MAKE SURE YOU DISCONNECTED FROM ANY INTERNET CONNECTIONS.

  1. Go to your C:\\ProgramData\MetaQuotes folder
  2. You will find WebInstall folder
  3. This is the source of the trouble that will automatically update any attempt to use old MT4 build 509, so just change it name to something else like Unused WebInstall
  4. Open your already updated MT4 terminal build 600. go to menu File / Open Data Folder
  5. Under MetaQuotes folder you will also find WebInstall folder and rename it too
  6. Close your MT4 build 600, if it still active
  7. Now, unrar or unzip your MT4 build 509 terminal to some place outside C;\\ProgramFile folder
  8. Create or Update/rename your MT4 shortcut icon and mark it with b509.
  9. Try to open your MT4 build 509
  10. Its work for me, to prevent auto update.

You get big problem, if you don't Zip or Rar your old MT4 build 509 before, in this case, you should ask some one/your friend who still have it ( i doubt your broker will give you the old MT4 build 509 installer.. lol, don't you know they also receive commission from the MQL4/MQL5 market transaction ? ).


With new plain installation of old MT4 build 509 (without any custom indicators/EA, script, login config, history,server file etc), the step by step to revert back your already 'force' MT4 build 600, will be little complicated to explain clearly in short. But generally try to move back the content of your File/Open Data Folder to correct folder of your plain old MT4 build 509 hopefully work, just remember don't move your EX4 that already re format to new MT4 build 600 and work there, just move any MQ4 files and also EX4 files that doesn't work in MT4 build 600.

Hi all,
I get the concept that the indicators, scripts and EA's are copied from the experts folder within my MT4 installation to the MQL4 folder. And for me so far everything looks fine and works like it should.
Now since those files were copied and not moved I was wondering if I could delete the root MT4 expert folder now? Or will that folder where all those stuff was previously saved still be used in the future?

An other way to ask the same question is: if somebody would install for the first time today MT4 on his PC would this new installation have the experts folder in the root MT4 folder? Or would the experts folder be in the MQL4 folder?

For me this is quite important since my MT4 takes up +/- 7 GB now instead of 3.5GB (because of the duplicate files)
In any case I always keep full backups of MT4 so if problems arise after deleting the experts folder I could always pull it in again...

Hi Guys
This new 600 version is causing me headaches. I know where the experts folder is however if i copy an indicator there it doesn't show up when i reboot the terminal. I tried moving my scripts and experts there as well and nothing is showing up in the terminal however it is in the file directory. any ideas on what i have done wrong?

Hi Speed2 - I had a similar issue today. It turned out I was copying and pasting to another MT4 upgraded platform on my computer.

By clicking File/Open Data Folder within the upgraded MT4 terminal that you are trying to add to, check the last 3 alpha/numerical digits on the version number. For example, the pathway to the correct indicators folder that I needed to add .ex4 files to was:
....|AppData|Roaming|Metaquotes|Terminal|.......DC23F91B23CA16|MQL4|Indicators

use the /portable start option (previously mentioned in this thread) and then you can leave all the files where they were under the install directory.

It is only with GMX, others should still work.
But make sure to test if you use an other SMTP.
Since it seems only with GMX accounts I would not be surprised if it is not a bug but a deliberate block MetaQuotes did...

Not here
I tryed Yandex and it goes succesfully one time. After first restart of terminal i get the same authentication error that i get with gmx before.

You must have hit some other bug I believe... I tested it throughout (20+ alerts send by email) and had not one single failure.
Btw my tests are spread over 2 different MT4 versions.
