Cheers RJ. Welcome Home! Thanks for updating us again. I do like a chart especially if it is a currency I'm not using.
I'm also going to make my own trading the most important thing this year and not just watch opportunities go by but take them.
I am now a low impact member........I thought as much!

I just have some questions with regards to your GENESIS set ups pre news, Are you saying that If you have a perfect LONG or SHORT set up with red news approaching you will enter before the news announcement? Or will you only enter in the direction of what your opinion of the announcement will go? I guess what I am asking is in Fridays example of the GU if Genesis was setting up nicely for a short position at 9.25 would you have opened short or where you anticipating Green news results and therefore only looking for a long genesis set up?

The conservative and sometimes very costly way that I have handled news announcements in the past is to close my positions three minutes before Red news announcements. I have never been able to tolerate the risk of leaving positions open with known approaching volatility. My knowledge of fundamentals is limited so I rarely have an opinion on which way the figures will go.

In Fridays GU example the news came out green which worked inline with your long entry, what if had come out red and went south the slippage on SL I would imagine would have been huge. How would you have managed that?

Thank you, I do not say much but I do not understand why so many can not simply abide by page 1. So many other threads have so much crap in them, If someone wants to talk about GMS+hopdido indie then by all means start your own thread and have at it, but leave this one alone. While you were on vacation I was surprised by the crap creep. I may not have much to offer but in the future I will at least point people to page 1. Lets focus on taking the banks pips with GMS.

Firstly, trading news events is far higher risk, and should only be traded by experienced traders, and start with small trade sizes.
Secondly, I dont follow FF rating of news, to me the industry standard rating is more relevant, Retail sales are tier 2 news, I very rarely trade tier 1 news, ie jobs/CB announcements/CPI. Tier 2 is less volatile, and more predictable.

There is nothing wrong closing just prior to news events, if you are in a trade.

Its all about the setup, if PA goes through a stalling process prior to news, and my MAs line up, then just prior to the news, ie within 5 mins, you start getting loads of asc arrows in the direction of my MAs, that turns it into a good trade setup, if there wasnt going to be a news event, I am trusting a Genesis signal is all I am doing here.

In my chart setup, I think I forgot to say, on my M5 chart I have M5/M15/M30 asc arrows, and on M15 chart I have M15/M30/H1 arrows all have alerts.

But you need to do loads of back-testing seeing those news events, and the Genesis setup - dont ry it unless you are completely comfortable recognising those Genesis setups.

iwan, it is a lot of screen space, but allows me to see things clearly, they are all 23 inch HD monitors, plus I have a laptop, with my news websites.

So each monitor has M15/M5 split 50/50

I have 2 monitors with my Genesis Metatrader setup EJ & GU.

Then I have 2 monitors with my eSignal strategy still M15/M5 split 50/50 with EJ & GU.

I have M30/H1/H4 charts already setup, so I flick to them regularly, and make notes which I record on my daily log

This year I am going to upgrade my computer and go to 6 monitors, so I can trade another pair.

I will only enter if I have a strong Genesis signal, I do not trust my opinion of the "markets interpretation" of the direction of the news.
I enter when Genesis gives me the signal, if it 20mins prior to news, then, if it is 5mins before then, if it half an hour later, I'll enter then.

Thanks for your Response Marty, All understood.

For now I think I will stick to my strategy of closing positions prior to these events.
The problem I eluded to I still see as the biggest threat and that is the difficulty if not impossibility of getting a reasonable fill on a pre set Stop loss limit order. For me this counts me out.
