These days its not really that much different trying to pick a top/bottom then getting in a trend. Yes maybe a decade ago you could just jump in a trend(I wasnt trading then) and trying to pick tops was slaughter but today its not that easy to just get in a trend and make money over the long term. Getting in a trend at the right spot is actually very difficult. And shorting the EURUSD was not trying to pick a top as price already made a top then rejected that top a second time and this third time broke it but then is falling back in. Sounds like a range to me.

it is very different actually.. study it and you will see the difference (if you go by candles, you're screwed from the get go)... as to not being easy, it's the way it should be... otherwise everybody would do it and there would be no cab drivers...

for the first question you have to study the chart and figure it out yourself(daily chart that is)... I can tell you everything in detail and it will be useless until you yourself understand it.. I think it's enough for me pointing your attention to that aspect of chart reading, isn't it? hint: bears rarely reverse it from consolidation.

second question, look it up.. I posted it today or go to reuters/markets/currencies

I see nothing wrong in today's move. It is just that what normally happens in a week, occured in few hours.

I have studied it, actually! I have a system built on 10 years of data. The thing is markets trend roughly 30% of the time so what happens with a typical trend follow system you get a lot of little losses in the 70% range conditions.

All I was simply trying to say was that over the evolution of markets trend following has become less of an edge than it used to be as its a much broader and bigger game now than before for FX(other markets aside). George Soros didn’t seem to care about picking tops on a chart, buy low sell high no?

I don't know what soros did.. he cheated if nothing else.. so he's an asshole, just like buffet is.. I can't stand these two socialists (socialists after they ripped everybody off.. assholes).. buy low/sell high thinking is what blows off accounts.. it's marketing bullshit.. just like the let your winners run, cut your losses fast.. oh let me add the risk/reward crap in here as well.. focusing on these three things will have the traders chase their tails for years and grind their account into the ground.. just my opinion.. stop being a level trader, and start reading what the market does under your feet.. </end rant>

as to the trend following systems, they work great when the market is trending as you said, but then they lose all the money in consolidation periods..

I never knew SOROS or BUFFET were evil though?! Well I guess anyone who is in the market is evil because they are out there trying to steal your money. Off with his head!

Very fine with this and I agree even if I'm more often than not able to get rid off these.

roll out the guillotines.. haha.. r/r... yeah... here's what's going on..how can one trade like that (except the mofu gang... I'm not touching that) when the market goes all over the place before it does its move? maybe the only way is wait wait wait and wait, until the potential entry is hit multiple times and then take the chance after all the earlies were slaughtered.. and then is this other issue.. If I set my s/l in the obvious place, aren't all the other traders doing the same thing? piling up juicy stops there for the taking? then how the hell can one calculate the r/r? I don't know... s/l should be set to a place where the price has no business going.. the s/l should not be a mean to be told when wrong... I know damn well when I'm wrong...
