Current Volatility of EURUSD & GBPUSD

I have got back into daytrading the EURUSD and the GBPUSD in the last few weeks. Whats happened to the Volatility. These currencies are moving at a snails pace with hardly any nice trends compared to when I previously daytraded them.

Yes you are right. Oh, to know what I know now back in 2008/9! I use the ATR indicator which gives the average range and the monthly range this year has dropped considerably for most pairs.

Volatility is a real problem for months. I think that the main reasons are HFTs and the CB monetary policies. A lot of large market participants trade options and a lot of spot activity is connected with delta hedging. See the large expiries in USD/JPY for example.

2012 an 2013 the pairs in question did a really good swing movements - very straightforward and focused, especially the cable during 2013.

If day-trading gets no value - move to weekly swings.

I'm afraid day-trading will gets more and more wonky due to the HFTs. Movements will not be consistent - only huge spikes when CB heads are talking and during important data releases - like US NFPs, but during the rest of the time - chunky. I can't see nice 4h candles in progression of cable since the summer. Even day candles are not that straightforward. But that's the game anyway. Market models are constantly changing.
