nice trades irishtoffy. im using TMS for day charts with positive results for a few months on demo. one of the hardest hurdles is (even on demo) letting profits run, but once you see the rewards its like a lighbulb moment.

currently i am using MPTM ea with custom settings to part close at a certain point to lock in some profit, then using a jumping stop to ride a portion of the rest of the move. this setfile also uses ATR for SL and hard TP. seems to be working well, am planning to port the settings over when i get to grips with the H4 timeframe.

I don't use the MAs for that per se. If PA tells me there could be a profitable move (whether bounce or retrace) the blue MAs help me where I put my entry stops. Basically if the candle crosses those (and if PA is right) my entries are triggered - retrace/reversal. If trending I don't use them for putting stops since the price is already past those lines.

If the blue MAs distance themselves from the red ones it's a trend continuation. If the price crosses the blue and they both go toward the red it's either a retrace or reversal, watch out.

If the price is inside the red, or both, I don't trade. If I see an opportunity, I put my orders outside of MAs.

As SJ already said, and I agree, the MAs are a good indicator of PA, a compass, but they can't be used as signals on their own. The overall PA with S/R is your boss, with it's TDI sidekick.

Week 44:

Weekend Exercise

Research and readup on STARC Band. Use Google and you will find plenty of online materials and also here in Forex Factory fourm.

Compare the STARC Band and Bollinger Band, know the difference of the two. Determine how it can use and which one is more effective to use as a tool when you trade with TMS.

The core method remains the same and the TDI is the heart of the method.

Remember "Let Profits Run" should be our objective when are trend trading using TMS.

Hi everybody, I'm a Newbie and I have a quick question regarding the TDI hybrid indicator... How does one set it up? I have both MT4 and MT5 on my PC and I just can't figure out how to do it. Could somebody please explain how to do it step by step? I'll buy you a beer.

Definitely watching the support levels for PA stall which may have started this afternoon.

H4 TDI is at a seriously oversold area, so expecting a pull back before the trend resumes - the PA angle looks to have enough momentum to break through the support levels.

Day trend looks good, which adds weight to PA continuing lower.

[highlight=rgba(255, 255, 255, 0)]If like me you had not heard of STARC (Stoller Average Range Channels) Bands before, they are similar to the Bollinger bands. These bands will contract and expand depending on the fluctuations of the average true range (ATR). The difference between Bolliner and STARC is that STARC bands are used to determine the high probability trade rather than standard deviations of price action. Simply when price rises to the upper band a sell opportunity is indicated and when the price reaches the lower band a buy opportunity is indicated.

Basically STARC is created by two bands around a user defined SMA, The upper band is created by adding SMA to the average true range (ATR) and the lower band is created by subtracting the ATR from the SMA. Thanks Blamshakk, I intended to research EAs a while ago but havent had the time to learn them properly.

I tried to learn a bit about MPTM before, but it took a back seat as I concentrated more on just getting my entry points correct.

Next on my to do list will be my exit strategy or trade management which will definitely involve an EA at the start anyway for times such as I am away form computer or just to keep my trigger happy finger off the trade!

Here is what a Starc band compare with Bollinger Band using a 50SMA as the mid line.
The Starc band uses the 50SMA as the mid line, and each band above and below is 2xATR(100) shown in this example below.


Which one is better visually for trade entry and exit?

Hi,

I try to make an assessement based on emmanuel's most recent posts using the EURCAD H4 chart + when the price started channelling the TDI was already above 68 showing overbought conditions.

Any comments highly appreciated.

Please find attached the Moving Average Envelope indicator. the default settings are SMA(50) and the bands around it at a distance of 2*ATR(100).

Hi emmanuel,

Based on the 2 charts that we are comparing, the StarC bands has a better visual aid to define take profits and exit. It has a more fixed structure in comparison with the bollinger bands.

With those structured lines, its also a good place to put a Sell Stop or a buy stop. For a structured entry and for a structured exit i think starc would be the best
