The Canadian government used to own Petro Canada, a gas station. Couldn't afford to keep it running, so it went to the public. There are more of them now and all profitable than when the gov't had it's hand in the cookie jar.

The Canadian Government used to control the department of motor vehicles. I watched 20 miles of highway get skinned and redone by a private company in rural Alberta in under a couple of weeks. Road was done a few years back and still like riding on glass. There is a 12 foot patch of road that has been re-done by City Workers every year for the last decade, and you still "Dukes of Hazard" that bitch if you are going over 20.

City workers make on average 25% on labour jobs, starting wage, as do workers in any privatized work environment doing the same thing.

The list could go on forever and all leads to the same thing. Governments shouldn't be allowed to open up shop, when they have repeatedly proven they cannot compete. It's cheaper for them to pay the bills and save the tax payers money than is for them to try their own brand of business for remedy.

And really, how many private courier companies are there with the governments still holding a postal service? Looked at the price of their stocks lately vs the state of finances of the Governments?

I agree, totally, government should NOT BE in any private business.
They always either fuck up or make disastrous losses.
