If you keep 75% open margin , you can ride them out, or pluck them from the bottom as the bad ones grow........

yep..that's the sad truth...i didn't expect that kind of outcome. Last time he said tapering would start this year and more importantly the program would end by mid 2014. I wonder how true that is now. Talk about credibility.

My question is if we are going to keep getting jobs between 100-200 and the unemployment rate hoovering around 7-7.5% and growth between 2-3% when are they ever going to taper ? And by taper i mean tapering it down to 0 ? is it even possible ?

It seems there are other forces in play such as the fear of interest rate spikes should we see a tightening in any form however minuscule. Spikes to levels unmanagable by the government...


I wonder how pissed RBA's Stevens is right now...or any other CB'er for that matter

Best trades seem to be GBP and EUR short against AUD and NZD...Those commodity currencies shit their pants the past months fearing the worst.

The answer is simple. I mentioned it last year during the "QE3 or No QE3" debate we were having and now it seems I may have been correct.
Back then I said if Benny comes out with QE3, he's going to ease the Fed into a corner he's not going to be able to exit from very easily. I also was adamantly saying that the US economy did not need any more QE. I was right about that too. All QE has done is give business and consumers a sense of insecurity. Without QE the 10 year rates would be hovering between 4 and 6% and the economy would be staging a slow but steady recovery without any bubbles.

The fact now is that Benny has lost credibility and as a result, his alter ego Janet Yellen will be useless for the job to replace him. The Fed now really badly needs a hawk to get them out of this mess. Herein lies the problem. Exiting would signal that the economy is going to be okay, but that would drive the 10 year benchmark up and limit the potential for growth that the fed is projecting. But the problem is not in whether or not to exit the purchase program, but rather whether or not to raise rates. Somehow the market has got it in it's thick head that pulling back on purchases means that the bond market will crash. It is a psychology issue. Therefore, we need a good hawk who the market can trust to start a taper and not stop. Yes the equity markets will take a dump and the 10 year benchmark will hit the roof, but so what? People and businesses are psychologically stuck in a phase of "The Fed thinks the economy is too weak so we better wait".

Therefore until we get rid of this QEInfinity crap, the economy will continue to grow too slowly to meet the Fed's projections, and if Benny tries to exit, the interest rates will prevent the Fed from reaching it's growth targets. Benny is stuck in a corner. Benny, I think it's time you resigned. You may as well tell the markets that WE will remain at 85 billion forever. That's your only hope to survive till your official resignation date.

Regarding unemployment and participation rate, get used to it. Fact is that there are three factors driving down the participation rate that even god cannot fix
1. Welcome to the internet revolution, where connectivity eliminates the requirement of new hires for a business to expand.
2. Welcome to the baby boomers retirement party. These people don't want to flip burgers at McDonalds after working 40 years in lucrative positions that no longer exist. They've given up and they're not coming back
3. Hi. I'm Mr. Job. I'm leaving on a jet plane to China. That's right, it's been happening for a long time and it's not going to stop.

Next Fed meeting is going to be a doozie. Get ready for loads of volatility as we approach late October. Nobody is trusting the Fed right now so there will be lots of panic to hedge and/or square off.

Remember when I told you that one point was BB didn't want to leave his Position with a Bubble bursting in his face, or something similar to a crash. They have created a Bubble and they do not know how to finish it. BB wants to leave his position with the S&P higher as never. So it's very easy to send the problem to the next Chairman.
I'm surprised too. I was waiting about one smaller Tapering, no this.

Yes you're right. This is ridiculous. The absolute worst case I was thinking of was 5 billion in tapering. At least that way the Fed would have kept some credibility. This way with no tapering, forward guidance means nothing anymore. I have decided now that we will probably not see any tapering until a new Fed president is appointed.
