The bloomberg chat is good, but for example, I couldn't just send a message to Icahn (there is a freind / contact system). It is much the same with the reuters IM service. However the forums for reuters are pretty good as well.

bloomberg chat comes with a standard launchpad / anywhere terminal, doesn't cost anymore than the $2,200/month. Unfortunately I have like 2 contacts so I don't use it.

most desks - i.e. the EM sales desk, or options vol desk - will have their own closed messaging system. But wider reaching parts will use bbg/tr chat.

i think it is perfect legal within the same company or bank. what about two, three, or more companies or banks do this?
