There are so many cities and states in the USA that have ridiculous amounts of unfunded pensions and benefits.

And when bond rates quit being artificially suppressed, well, a 1st grader can do the math. :nerd: Detroit is going to have LOTS of company in the cheese line.
Until this week, it has not been a slow summer, unlike last year. Last weeks surge from the 2750 area to ricocheting off 3200 kind of fizzled out this week and I am wondering what happens next. We are in the general middle area for the currency and I have no reason nor certified opinion on the USD, EUR or their respective economies. Until we break above 3200 then 3400 or below 2750 then 2650 I'm inclined to feel we are just stuck in the middle. Just my current sentiment. Happy hunting everyone!

posted elsewhere....Shortly I have to head out with a couple of engineers and their diagnostic equipment to check out a hot Cat - Kohler is better now with new sea water pump bearings - so I'll be sailing towards Ibiza and looking at electronic charts around 39.5šN, 2.7šE rather than watching UsdJpy at 100.00

Now will I have time to go to my favourite anchorage ....better than watching the "action" so far this morning.....now I wonder why I like it there

Are you still holding on to that AUDNZD long trade PT.
I think that with Detroit going bust i can't see the FED stopping the printing anytime soon, which in my eyes means USD weakness.
On the ohter hand even with this news we haven't seen any real rally again the dollar.
Anybody else feel my way that unless we brake the recent highs and it closes, the USD still has the upper hand.

First of all, I don't really think there is any correlation between Detroit's bankruptcy and the Fed's monetary stimulus program. The two are completely unrelated. If anything, Chapter 9 protection from the courts could allow the city to bounce back simply through the relief of not having to pay out interest and instead invest those funds in the operation and commercial promotion of the city. Even if not, private enterprise will continue to operate and that is what the Fed is concerned about... not a city that's been on the road to hell for the last 10 years.

Regarding your bolded question, I don't understand exactly what you are trying to ask. can you please rephrase the question?

By the way. Yes I am still long AUD/NZD but it's not cooperating so far.

ADD: Never mind SF. I understand your question now... Yes, the USD still has the upper hand... in a big way.
