I'm looking for an improved trade filter and wanted to ask what others are using. Over the years I've used some of the standards -- 34 EMA, ADX/DMI, etc but am looking for something different. Somehwere in the forums was mentioned a MA cross as a filter, but don't know where that went to. What's your favorite filter?

No sure how long since you joined (can't be that long) but, as a newbie myself, the best advice I can give you is start here

James, the guy that runs that is very good at helping with your questions and there are loads of other traders who will jump in with helpful advice.
I'd been trading (badly) for a few months before I found this Forum and I haven't looked back since.
The advice given will open your eyes and let you see the things you should be looking for and it's all free. If you want to join the Private Form at a later date you can. There is a cost but once you've seen the wealth of extra material within it, I think you'll realise that compared with most of the other commercial crap that's out there, it's good value. James still posts to the free area so you won't lose out by not joining the PF.
Spend some time looking through the area I highlighted and try and take onboard some of the concepts. Once you've looked at your charts with all the usual indicators (MACD, RSI, Stochastics etc) removed you start to understand what James and his team, and all the other guys on this forum are trying to get us to see.
Good luck and keep asking questions, I posted some REALLY stupid things and nobody has laughed yet (well, at least I didn't hear them).

Thx. I'm new to the forum, but not new to trading. I've always traded on either esignal or tradestation and recently found metatrader, and hence, this forum. Interesting platform, but still getting used to its nuances.

the detrend oscillator can help during whipsaw market action. That's if you are a volitility based trader. example. Don't take trades in the +20 / -20 area.
