What are you talking about is compounding of interest gained. Or reinvesting of profits. This is what lurks many investors in FX market in general. But let me assure you it doesnt work, unless you are very mentally strong individual. Theory is great, but I assure you you are going to get heartattack . Size of the account has heavy impact to your trading decisions. You just simply cant say "ah, fack it, MAs crossed, so I buy for a million". It really gets tougher and tougher when your account grows.

Let us agree to disagree . I am talking of limits of speculating markets. Let me repeat. If it was possible to reap such huge profits from markets, all the banks would do it, we would be all superrich and world GDP would be made from trading . It would totally change structure of the world as we know it. But thats just not the way it is.

Banks actually make gigantic profits, but their overhead is just also very big. A good traders salary starts around $600,000 per year + commission.
And their computer systems are extremely expensive. They put millions in research and so on.
Then they make profit on top of that.

Everything's relative...

Percentage means absolute zero, why dont you guys talk about profit factor instead?

Imo it tells a lot about the trader instead of silly percentages, everybody have different acc, and the easiet thing is to say i made x percent today etc etc..

Y, and that is why like 10 banks in Europe got nationalized in last two years . Also the reason for Lehman crash and AIG bailout. Also the reason why bank stocks keep on falling.

Cmon man, those banks are totally facked. They are just overleveraged insider trading bastards. Y, some banks reap gigantic profits, like GS, but that is because they´ve got connections to US congress.

I was just talking about their forex profits, not their over leveraged derivatives.

Well, I am talking of limits of speculating markets in general. Bonds, Stocks, Commodities, Currencies, whatever. Maybe they are profitable in FX, but also all of them bought PIIGS bonds awaiting bailout and got spanked last year. That is called portfolio. It is useless beeing profitable in FX, when you loose all gains in bonds.

When big accounts and big stakes are being played a lot of interesting things start to happen.
For example what happen on JPMorgan some months ago. Their trading desk was making huge bets on a tiny market, the hedge funds found out it was JPMorgan, so they united and margin called him. Things like that happens when big stakes are at play.. Your broker also doesnt play againts you, it will hedge your positions, (ie, you get a average price of what you bought) things like that..
Its a zero-sum game and people are viscious when big stakes are at play.

percentage means zero ?

What if you make 50% every month ? It still means nothing ?

And profit factor doesn't mean much more then...

Lol Hadox. Percentage is everything. It is the most important part of trading, to make profit . At least thats what I´ve thought.

Gross profit / gross loss.

10k profit / 5k loss during the month = 2 profit factor

So it doesn't say much more than percentage about how profitable you are.

It just shows how "good" you are, highest profit factor means overall profit is far better than overall loss.

But 10$ profit / 5$ loss = 2 ....
