Jo, I'll give you a condensed version of how my trading got to where it is now, and hopefully somewhere in there your questions will be answered. Be sure though, that there is much for me to learn still....I don't whether it is possible to ever stop learning in this business and there are far better traders around than me, so I still have a lot of work to do.

I started much like anyone else....in complete ignorance! I downloaded a demo account and figured out how it worked and then played with it. I didn't really know too much, but I had a lot of beginners luck and thought that I had discovered my own personal ATM machine!! Of course I was trading a demo account of $50k and I didn't see the value of having a SL....pah....what a stupid idea a SL is!! The inevitable losses came until I wiped out the demo account.

After a couple of months I discovered this place (Forex Factory), and a whole new world opened up for me, and I realised that this was not a game, that it should be possible to make money from the FX market. So I subscribed to (guess what? ) the eur/usd thread! I downloaded a new demo and started reading that thread and trying to follow advice and examples and trying to understand TA......as you know, in that thread there are a handful of excellent traders, and a huge number of wannabe traders who we shall refer to as muppets, from here on in!

I was making progress, but it was kind of in the 'one step forward, two back' fashion and I was getting very confused by the muppets, who I didn't yet know were muppets. I was inspired by a trader named Atlast, who still posts from time to time in that thread. He was trading before the Internet....trading from the ticker tapes in fact and he seemed to really know his stuff. He was very good with TA and his specialty was the Andrews Pitchfork. We because friends and I asked him about how the pitchfork worked, but he never really explained it to me because he said that I wasn't ready for it yet, instead he got me to buy the book you see on my profile.

Reading that book was my first 'Eureka' moment. I realised that what I was going through was the same as everyone else, and that if I stuck with it, I could succeed. Coooool!!

The more I read the more I realised who the muppets were and I realised that no one....NO ONE....knows which way the PA will go......and trying to predict it was time consuming, ineffective and unreliable.

Never-the-less....after 18 months of demo trading I thought I'd open a small 'live' account. So I did.....with $300. Probably more by good luck than good management I got that account to $2k in about 2 months...all while working full time of course. Then my luck ran out and I entered a steady flow of losses.....all because I was trying to predict which way the price would go, and I was still reading 'advice' from the muppets.

So I announced to the eur/usd thread that after making some good progress initially, now it was all turning to custard and I was a) going to leave the thread, and b) going to read my book another few times and then decide whether trading was for me or not.

Shortly after that I got an email from another great trader from that thread, Acumen. He said that he understood my frustration with the thread, but he assured me that I was on the brink of a breakout (pardon the pun) and that he could help me, and I could also help him. You see, if you check up on acumen here at FF you will see that he is a great Pivot points and stochastic trader, but he too was getting sick of the ever increasing amount of muppets in that thread. So he decided that he would develop his own system specialising in pivots and stochs, and he would sell it. He would also create a forum from his sytem users and he would offer support. His offer was for me to be his test dummy.....he would give me the system for free, and in return I would give him feedback...good or bad.

So I went with acumen and I left FF!! His system did indeed work, and it worked well. It didn't really suit me perfectly but at least I was getting better at entries and also getting better at knowing when to not enter. This was another 'light-bulb' moment for me. I realised that all the predicting in the world amounted to the same thing.....it was guesswork. Educated guess maybe....but still guesswork. What I needed was a system.....I needed to be a system trader if I was going to become consistent, and acumens system, while not perfectly suited to me, taught me the basics of what has stood me in good stead ever since....stochastic and pivots.

Eventually I drifted back to FF in search of a system that better suited me, but still I would use stochastic and pivots, no matter what.

I settled for a while on the Trading Made Simple thread by (the late) eelfranz, and I learned a great deal.....but the system still didn't suit me.

Next, I went to the Symphonie thread, more or less from the start of that thread. The indicators used were shocking repainters, but when used with my stochastic and pivots, it seemed worthy of investing some time. After a bit of a battle I was able to get the non repainting TVi introduced to that sytsem, but I couldn't get and further progress. Never the less.....I was becoming more consistent with the combination of what I had been taught, what I had discovered, and the Symphonie system. Little by little that system morphed into an Elliot wave,and pattern recognition and PA prediction thread and only used the system to enter trades based on the bias born from all this wave counting and pattern recognition mumbo jumbo. I (and others) became frustrated at this and the lack of enthusiasm to make the (basically sound) system a complete non-repainting system and to get back to the roots, which is to become system traders......not counting elliot waves, mexican waves, blow waves or any other kind of wave! A small group of us agreed that we were not going to be like the masses and get into this prediction game, we wanted a system that would show us what the market is doing *now* and how to enter it, *now.*

At about this time Xaphod made a set of indicators that didn't repaint and he made them for the Symphonie system. For me......*THIS* was the defining moment. I was as happy as a pig in pile of poo.....and I wanted this to be the system. The Symphonie system however, was not going to embrace this gift from Xaphod, so I thought 'fuck it then', I and a few others spoke to Xaphod and we created the Genesis Matrix System....a system that, at last, see's the market as it is right now, and gives accurate indications of when it is best to enter the market.

The rest, as they say, is history.

So to come full circle Jo, yes, there were time when I had doubts that I could make it in this business. The lowest point was right before acumen 'rescued' me from the eur/usd thread. If it wasn't for him I might have quit.

When I left my full time job (coming up 3 years ago this year), Genesis wasn't born yet.....but I still had a belief that I could make it in this business....but I was never going to make it and hold down a full time job at the same time. I had enough money to not worry (due to previous business ventures) so I 'took the plunge', and I honestly believe that I could not have learned all that I have learned if I did not quit my job. Of course my savings took a huge dive, and my 'income' from FX trading was small. But, the win/loss rate lifted with Symphonie, and it took a much, much steeper climb (and it still gets steeper every day) once we had the Genesis system.

This year is the year where in which have already recovered all my losses and my savings account is back to where it was to start with, I have food to eat and roof over head....tequila, Ducati and I am going to make a decent salary as well.

So it's been a long haul and a series of ever increasing 'Eureka' moments, and a defining moment when acumen saved me and showed me the power of pivots and stochs.

I hope that I am giving something back to the community of traders and learners because I have taken from them too. If we all take and give back.....then there is no limit to what we can accomplish.

it's very hard leave the job and try to trading for living if you have to live with the income of trading just by the start

Thank you RJ This system is really good. I really liked your story. I read the whole thread Genesus. I did not so long ago in forex, I have tried a large number of systems. But it is not one of the systems could not bring me such pleasure as this.
